Helmet Review
M2R Revelation X Replica Helmet
Street Price: 179.00 - 199.00
First Impression:
Interested in a helmet that is comfortable when just
hanging around and protects the noggen well on the track?
The M2R may be the ticket.
I
have been reading about the M2R Helmets for quite awhile.
At first I wasn't too interested in the M2R product
line. They looked nice but I was sold on another brand
since the M2R appeared to just be the "new kid
on the block."
After
reading a review in Transworld MX and about it
on many websites I decided to give the M2R a try. The
Revelation X has a fully removable and washable
interior with a colorful paint job for a very reasonable
cost. I've seen them advertised as low as $179.
Features
include:
Multiple
colors are available. I chose the silver/crown top as
it looked like it would go with anything. According
to the website the Revelation X even has a Langston
replica paint job and a Stephan Roncada 2 Headed Dragon
replica.
As delivered:
Right out of the box I noticed that the helmet is light.
Very light. I had a MSR Superlight and I could feel
the difference of the M2R being lighter than other helmets
I was considering.
Upon
further initial inspection I was a little worried about
the venting. The helmet does not have any vents on the
top of the helmet, just a chrome chin vent and vents
on the side. When I tried it on I noticed that my ears
had a lot of room. It was an odd feeling at first but
I got used to it fairly quick after getting on the track.
Functionality:
When I got to the track I did a few new helmet superstitious
routines, put on the helmet and did a few laps. The
ventilation worried me quite a bit but as I worked up
a good sweat I noticed that the helmet was not any hotter
than other helmets I have owned and I felt that it vented
better too.
Wrapping it up:
The helmet is light and I don't mind wearing it, even
after a hot moto or long run through the woods. With
all of my other helmets I couldn't wait to get them
off. With the M2R I have found myself wearing it for
a few minutes after a moto instead of rushing to get
it off my head. In 90 degree heat and above it is still
warm but ventilates well enough that it is comfortable
while riding for the most part.
Overall
I have found the helmet very comfortable. In my opinion
the head is the most important part to protect when
riding and I am very concerned when it comes to having
a quality helmet. At $179 I can afford to replace it
after a hard get off instead of wondering if the hit
was bad enough to warrant replacement. It's better to
be safe than sorry.

Minuses:
I wish it had more ventilation but I have not worn any
helmet under $300 that I would say ventilates any better
than the M2R.

Initial
impressions
1. Good looks out of the box, although not sure about
running around with a crown on my head, lol. Good quality
appearance, less a place beside the chin guard where
the "paint" comes-up short of the rubber lip
around the eye port... supposed to be blue, but leaves
a visiable white area.
Ever
been cut by a helmet? I was wiping it off, made the
mistake of letting my finger jam into the back... pointed
edge of the visor (there are two of them) ... that damn
thing is sharp! I'm bleeding on my keyboard. The graphics
on the visor attempt to match those on the lid, but
don't come close. There is a LARGE mold mark under the
visor, were it was apparently trimmed from a mold tree.
No big deal, but....

Be
careful when handling... those things will cut you.
A design
change
is in order.
Fit
is GREAT for a helmet of this cost. Noticed however
the strap seems to be located closer to my neck (farther
back) than other helmets, it rubs on my neck. Don't
know if that will be a long term problem or not.
Interior
reminds me of KBC, although it fits much better than
any KBC I've had. Comparing the materials/construction
of the liner, padding to the Arai isn't really fair....
the Arai smokes it, but also costs more than twice as
much as the Rev X.
Like
Ivan, I'm concerned about venting, I'm used to the Arai
with it's web'd crown, allowing air to flow over the
top of your head (that's the idea anyway). Going to
be riding in OK this weekend, we'll see how the venting
works. (Update: It vents better than expected; as
well as anything I've worn that didn't cost your first-born)
The
thing is BIG! Although looking like another Shoei clone,
it's a LOT more round/large than I've seen... more like
the width of a Bell Moto 7. The eye port is huge, swollows
googles, easily handles Oakley O-Frames, Regular frame
Oakley, Smith Top Fuel Scott 89's
My
Summary:
If you are in the market for an affordable, light weight
and well made lid, you owe it to yourself to take a
close look at the Revelation X. This is a SOLID Buy..
