That's a pretty awesome list. I'd like to know your age, and how long you've been riding.

I'll be 27 shortly, and have now been riding for 8 years.

I still have every bike I bought. My signature has the list. The RZ was first, and then I bought a second one for parts. The RR I've had for 4 years, and I finally got my first dirtbike this Spring. I want a cruiser yet, and a BMW 1150GS.

Here's a tip! Try to keep the front number plate off of every bike you own. Hang them on the wall. In thirty years they will be a treasure!
I have the plate off of the Greeves, the Maico, the Super Rat, the Bultaco, the Penton, and a bunch of Jap stuff.
Priceless!!

1976 Huffy from Toys R Us. Hey, it was Honda red with a rear shock :) , but I got robbed by a few older kids, little *******s wanted to wack me over the head with a wrench. So, I hounded my dad and he got me my first real bike a year or so later, a YZ80. Now I'm an old fart (35) with a 01 CR250, and about 20 bikes in between.

I'm 17, been riding for about 3-4 years.

In order of ownership:

1976 YZ80 (way too small when I got it at 13)
1985 KX80 (first bike I ever rode actually - bigger, but still too small)
1980 CR125 (got it for 200 bucks (it even ran!) - flies in the powerband, but suspension is awful)

ride it like it's mine (actually my dads, but he hardly ever rides it): 1984 CR250 - I started riding it before I got the 125, and I couldn't really ride the 125 (dual shocks) after getting used to the 250 (monoshock). Even though it's old, it can still go faster and fly higher than I can (but I'm working on curing that :) ).

Since all of my bikes were purchased with money I earned, I haven't been able to get anything remotely new... but I still have fun! I'm also saving for something better...

CT 70 Honda '71?, 1st bike, I was 10 or 11, honda reliability!

JT1 60 Yamaha Mini Enduro, '71? my first 2 stroke, faster than the CT70, previously owned by a chubby kid so rear shockes were bent

TS185 Suzuki, way too big for me and had to push start- no kickstarter, removed one shock so the suspension would move:) , destroyed when I "took too much apart" trying to "fix" it

the above three I bought for under $100, and figured out how to fix them enough to ride.

KDX80 Kawasaki, '82, first Uni Trak in the neighborhood, my first "good" bike, put really big front sprocket on so I could keep up with neighbor's CR125 on top end

TM125 Suzuki, '74, highly modified, way narrow powerband, wasn't real impressed with this one

Some weird old Jap trials bike, great practice for balance

400 Enduro Yamaha, bad CDI or something caused this bike to go from sputtering to full power without warning! With the slick rear tire, it would sometimes dump me off! Scary fast top end, no suspension.

XL350 Honda, was junk when I bought it, I got it running, started on fire twice, frame was cracked in many places, sold for parts

PE175 Suzuki, '82, too tall for me, learned to climb hills with it, nice bike

RM125 Suzuki, '82, awesome bike, probably still running today, engine was still good when I sold it after years riding on the same top end!

495 KTM MX, '84?, monster motor, too heavy, poor suspension, learned respect for power, goofy left side kickstarter and no choke, ditched it after finding out a set of clutch plates was $375 :think

CR125 '88 Super bike in every way!!!

CR250 '88 Also a great bike!

CR250 '92 My first almost new bike, way better than the '88 but had terrible forks

CR250 '93 Basically the same great bike with the same terrible forks (did I mention the flamboyant pink plastic? Oh yea, pink was cool back then, I forgot...

RM250 '95 Tired of having weak suspension, I switched to Suzuki. I learned this was a step down in quality, but suspension WAS better...this was an ok bike with weird handling and super forks.

RM250 '96 Better handling and even better forks, loved this bike! Kept this one 3 or 4 seasons, modified everything including 300 kit!

KX 100 '99, supposed to be wife's bike, I modified and rode the stuff out of it, had to sell before I got hurt doing 70' tripples on the silly little thing:) (the temptation was too great)

RM125 '98, Bought as an experiment to see if I wanted to get a 125 again, yes I did want a 125 but this bike was a roach with good forks (bought from an A rider...never again!)

KX125 '00, Great bike with ho-hum engine, loved the bike, NO breakdowns whatsoever (great quality), sustained a rediculous hit when I overjumped a big jump with no apparent damage (except for me needing a change of underwear)

CR250 '01 Love it! Came with funky jetting, but no biggie...other than that, motor runs so good I haven't even THOUGHT of modifying it!

CR250 '00 Bought as a project...for sale!

also, 250 Honda racing 3 wheeler, why? I don't know. Ported the cylinder at work, kept running over my foot in turns, friends always wanted a turn, sold before someone got hurt!

I'm sure I forgot a few. I am in my early '30s now.

This is long already, so I won't go into street bikes, go carts, sleds, and personal jet-packs...

Wow!

Great to see there are bigger geeks than myself! ;)

Saw a few 81' IT250s in the list. I forgot to mention mine is still parked in my father's garage in great condition. I start it up every time I go home for a visit.

Hapanese, where are you in Japan? Hiroshima here.

One bike to add to my "Ridden" list. 01' TM400 4T. Spent the day yesterday trying to set it up for a demo event. I'll try to file a report in the Euro Bikes forum later.

That's a pretty awesome list. I'd like to know your age, and how long you've been riding. LOL...I did some calculating from his list, and kip has to be about 158 yrs old. :p

My memory fades in and out, but I'll give it a try...

'69 Sears Minibike w/5hp B&S
'70 Kawasaki 80cc road rat (no idea what it was other than a box I put knobbies on and gave it hell)
'72 or '73 Hodaka Super Rat (quite a bike in it's day)
'75 Kaw 100 Trail King (5 off-road/5 on road gears)
Old Bultaco 500 I got to keep about 5 days....I was forced to get rid of it when the parents saw what a monster it was!
'75 Honda SL-125
Late '75 Kaw Z-1 900  (last of the Mohicans)
'79 Suzuki GS850
'99 Yamaha yz125
'00 Honda XR80
'00 Honda XR100
'00 KTM 125sx
'01 Honda Elite scooter

I'm sure I missed a few old "horse trades" .

Ooops, forgot to answer that...

36 years young, riding since... Hmm, not sure. I think my first ride by myself was on the 90cc Cub at my Grandfather's farm. I remember the funky position (standing on the pegs in the step-through with the seat in the middle of my back and the handle bars like ape-hangers). I must have been around 7 or so. I got my first bike (cousin's used GT80) at 11 and went to the IT175 at 12.

Hey Spanky,
I'm curious what you remember about your Hodaka? When I had my Super Rat I had heard about the Combat Wombat's but had never seen one up close.
I do remember being one of the few who had a real dirt bike. I also remember never going too far without a plug in my pocket. :)

Wow you guys have a awesome list of bikes. I thought I had a lot!

1976 Suzuki TS100 My first bike given to me by one of my lawn mowing customers. (I used to think that bike was fast :scream: )

1982 SUZUKI RM125 Split it with my friend and bought it with a blown shock (unknown to me)

1982 SUZUKI RM125 Parts bike for the one with the blown shock

1985 YAMAHA YZ250 Really nice, fast with poor rear suspension

1984 SUZUKI GS550ES My first streetbike. Very nice my first and only bike I ever bought brand new. Dropped it (lightly) in a parking lot 2 minutes after I got it :silly: I still can't believe it.

1987 HONDA CR250R Everyone else loved this bike, but I just thought it was so FAT around the gas tank.

1988 KAWASAKI KX125 Bought this bike with only about 3 hours on it. Best condition bike I ever bought. I LOVED that bike. Lots of power and GREAT suspension. I'd buy one again.

1988 KAWASAKI KX250 I bought this bike from TUF Racing. It was actually Keith Bowens Supercross bike, minus the works suspension. They gave me revalved stock suspension. It had "cut" gears that I could shift under full throttle without the clutch OR letting off the throttle. Fastest 250 I've ever ridden.

1989 HONDA CR250R Very thin bike really nice never gave me a problem.

Long span and two jetskis later

1996 YAMAHA YZ125 Best handling bike I've ever had. Unbelieveably fast for a 125. I LOVE IT!

This just looked too fun to resist. Was a great trip down memory lane making up this list.I didn't start till I was 9 years old, but I tried to make up 4 lost time later. I'm 38 now. While I had my shop, I "borrowed" the 4 sale bikes that I was interested in until I was sure that I wasn't interested anymore. A lot of them I never planned on making any big money on, I just wanted to try them out. Now you have a good idea of why I don't have a shop anymore, it was as much pleasure as business. But very few people ever have a chance to do something they love, even for a few years. I spent a lot of 12 to 16 hour days at the shop, but it had great side benifits !

(WATCH OUT, IT'S A LONG ONE!)

'72 Yam. DT-250 that my cousin gave to me

I hope I can still reply even though my list is not very impressive. I rode a KTM 80 motocross bike (don't even know the designation), probably -84 or -85.

mid-eighties CR125

Then I took a ten-year break and returned with an

'97 CR500
'99 CR500
'01 YZ250
and from tomorrow
'02 520 SX (there's no replacement for displacement)

Fortunately, I have not been completely alienated from big-bores after trading in the last CR5, since my dad has had a Husaberg 501 and two KTM 380 SXs since then.

I only ever had one bike at a time, but I like to try different kinds.

Jaybird Looking back, I realize what a piece of junk it was. It had zero damping, quirky handling, and since I knew nothing about jetting (or even what a jet was ;) ) it fouled plugs constantly. The tank had a crack near the top, so I could only fill it about half way full if I didn't want to wear gasoline. At the time, though, I thought it was the greatest thing! :)

Man I loved my Combat Wombat. But there sure werent a lot of them out there. Just about everyone who had a Hodaka rode the Super Rat. It was a great desert racing bike. As for the fouling of the plugs I have to agree. But it wasnt until a year after I bought the bike used, that I got a manual and learned that the Hodaka ran a much leaner mixture compared to the Hondas and Yamahas. I must have went through a hundred plugs that first year. Of course back then when you were a kid you cleaned the plugs and used them again and again.

this is kinda funny cause for a long time i had an RT180 (big piece of garbage) and it broke everytime i went riding and spent numerous hours walking out of the trails. then a couple weeks ago i got my money together and got a 2001 CR250 and i love it.

'84 KDX 80 Started the dirt bike addiction. After wrapping it around the neighbors tree, I found how much fun it could be!

'86 Honda Spree (Yippee!) Jumped my first double on this on a BMX track.

'84 KX125 Fully modified for a pro before I got it. Ported, head milled, PSI pipe, etc... Eye opening experience to what Real power was at 15. First ride I learned the importance of throttle control in the whoops. It got a new set of plastic after that first ride. I raced MX with this bike for 2 years till I cartwheeled down a REAL steep hill at Magic Mt. Race Park in the Adirondacks, NY. (I think that was the name of the place). Either way, bent the forks, frame, triple clamps. What a mess. Sold it to a guy who said "Why do I need to pre-mix the gas?" I knew he would be the right owner for it.

'85 KX125 I raced this all over for another year until it got stolen. Short ver of long story. tried to sell it to buy a 250. Bad check. (Never take a check for a bike sale. I was a teenager at that point with no real experience exhanging money). I got teh bike back, but it was thrashed beyond recognition. FUBAR. Moron who stole painted it camouflage. Sold it very cheap, beleive me. Got married. 12 years later, got my next new ride.

'89 KX125 for $700.00. I spent 1 1\2 years and $1200.00 rebuilding it. Got it done and my wife buys me a new ride. I think she saw how bad and determined I wanted to race again. Sold this ride to Awilson40, who seems to be enjoying it when he not injuriing himself.

2001 KX250 Yippeee. I'm back! Thanks wife for helping me aquire this new ride! It takes a little (ALOT!) of getting used to. So much more power than the old rides, it's hard to beleive. We'll see where we end up with this one.

I would have given my left nut at the tender age of 15 for a 1981 Maico 490. They were just legend around here. What, in particular, was so ahead of its time for that bike--or moreover, what did you like so much about it?

Anyone notice that Maico is building 685cc Super Motard bikes now? :p

Yep, two stroke...
Yep, single cylinder...
Umm... 85Hp

WOW!

Sorry, only the 620cc model pictured... You'll have to explore the links for data.

Sounds like fun.

simply the absolute best motor in its day and they have tried to copy it ever since! From what a friend of mine tells me who still owns a 81 490 and has a 520 thumper (bob pistole owner of sunset ridge) he says that the old bike runs as close to a thumper as any two stroke but with the top end horsepower!

ALL i remember is I would pull up on a straightaway alongside a 465 wound tight, look over and then just give it the rest of the throttle and LEAVE!

it was like having a 500 when everyone else was on 250's!

LOL kinda like riding a vet class now with my A/F!

anyway i had a great year that year racing that bike. some day i will own anohter one of those just "because"

you know its to bad but that motor in the picture is the same looking as my 1985, and 1990 maicos. It prolly would be a biatch to kick start!

same power valve set up which works for like three weeks.

same water pump which goes thru bearings like monthly.

but the bike still looks cool and how would that beast handle with different tires on a big out door track.?

LOL

Man that brings back memories. I can remember riding that '74? Suzuki 250(my dad's bike that I inherited)when I was 10. I'd roll it out of the garage, lean it against the wall, kick it 'til it surrendered, lean it away from the wall, dump the clutch, and away I went. My feet barely reached the pegs, let alone the ground. Dismounting the bike was basically the above procedure in reverse. Boy, a kid sure could have alot of fun before they invented safety ;).

I've loved motorcycles since I was 10 years old. In order, these are the bikes I have owned…

’73 Suzuki TS-50 (first bike, bought new, what a thrill she was. Had to share with brothers)
’71 Honda CT70H (the one with the four speed/clutch transmission)
’75 Suzuki TC-125 (dual-range transmission, could NEVER find the correct gear)
’76 Suzuki TS-185 (still runs! Currently being restored)

Bike disassembled because my father determines that he doesn’t like motorcycles.

’71 Honda CB-125 (bought under parent radar for $100 freshman year of college - a total POS)
’81 Suzuki GN-400S (400cc kick-start street thumper. Bought new in ’83 for $990)

In 1984 I take a break from motorcycles to buy “grown-up” stuff. The dream never dies. I am consumed with owning a motorcycle for 10 years.

’91 Suzuki GSXR-1100 (a fat-n-fast beast)
’91 Kawasaki KDX200 (after 20 years a good bike to get back to the dirt)
’99 Kawasaki KX125
’01 Yamaha YZ250F
’01 Suzuki SV650S

’01 Honda XR50 (bought for son on his 7th birthday – 5-year old now rides it)
’02 Kawasaki KX65 (son’s current ride)

Bikes I have ridden enough to claim some ownership. Kids do trade bikes a lot!

’70 Honda Z-50
’72 Honda XL175
’75 Hodaka 100 Dirt Squirt
’75 Suzuki TM75
’76 Honda TL250
’76 Honda CR125 Ellsinore
‘74 Suzuki TM400 (my brothers – scared the crap out of this 13 year-old boy, but I loved it)
’90 Yamaha YZ250 (it lives in my garage and I wish it would leave – I crash every time I ride it – I hate that bike)

Bikes I’m looking for…

’73 Suzuki TS-50 (you never forget your first love)
’71 Honda CT70H (the best bike I ever owned)
‘8? Something cool

I have only been riding for about three years now and I have already had an ATV 2000 Kawasaki Mojave, 2001 CR 125, and now own a 2000 YZ 250. I may not have that much experience, but I am an awesome rider. I dont do MX, but I challenge anyone to keep up with me in the trails that has the same amount of riding as me. Or anyone that thinks they can keep up.
