Does anyone know whether I can use something other than an 'E' shift shaft in my 89 KDX200?

I'm having a hell of a time finding the right part, and hoping I can use a newer one instead.

I just checked the Kawasaki website and they list the part # as 49047-1065 and it is good for models from '86-'94. That part# has been superseded by part# 49047-1090 which is for model years '95-'05. Kawasaki's website is

I actually found a complete transmission on eBay from my year/model so I ordered that. It just depends on your search terms sometimes on there.

I bought a pre 95 transmission to fix the stripped output shaft when I rebuilt my "bought it in a bucket" 95 KDX 200. I don't have all my notes handy, but about half the transmission parts were the same (including the output shaft).

I probably have the rest of that pre 95 tranny in a box in the garage somewhere, if a part of it will help anyone with a pre 95 bike (but won't fit my 95), email me at bill at kilgallon family dot com and I'll try and dig the parts out and make you a deal you can't refuse.
