240 kit

I am thinking about the L.A.Sleeve 240 kit for my 02 KDX200.

They said it would be a 7 HP gain ........? :think

Any one done this? What do you all think

I too was wondering about this setup, is this maybe a bit much to bore it? even with resleeving?

Wish I could comment more beyond saying that I bought mine with the 240 job already done and it goes like hell. I can't compare it to the bike pre-240, but compared to other stockers I test-rode, it's very strong indeed.

I've been too busy riding to tear the top end down to see how it's put together. I'm wondering if the liner has any sort of electrofusion or nikasil type of plating, or if it just runs the cast iron.

Normally such a big increase in bore would be a cause for worry with liner thickness, but seeing as it's a new liner involved, is should be fine.

You end up with a very oversquare bore/stroke ratio that's more like current four-stroke practice, but it's still worth sacrificing a little design perfectionism for the whopping 20% capacity increase.

Best Wishes,

Craig

for, chances are really good it just runs the cast bore.

ASLCM I'd also have a look at one of Eric Gorrs 225cc big bore kits. It includes porting, head work etc etc. The cylinder is bored and plated, no sleeving involved. The one I rode was really nice.

So you think it'd be cast iron Dave? Interesting. I presume there's nothing to stop us having it plated if we want to recapture the anti-wear characteristics of the stock bore. There's a crowd in my area that specialises in reconditioning plated bores, and I presume it's not a hard service to find elsewhere too.

I have no idea about availability of oversize pistons and rings for 240 kits should a rebore become necessary, so it seems like a good idea to make the liner as tough as possible.

Regards,

Craig.

All of LA Sleeve's liners are cast iron. I believe that the co that Eric Gorr uses for replating can lay in a coat of their nickel-silicon carbide. It's going to cost $175 or so in addition to cost of the kit.

$175? Ouch! US dollars at that!

L.A. Sleeve only charges $108.70 for the sleeve itself. Better to wear it out and buy another one methinks.

Well, would the length of the cylinder with coating be twice( or more) of that without? and would there be any other issues with increased wear? such as heating? And is there an issue with having the square bore and stroke?

I am not sure that I understand this as being a bad thing, it seems like you are saying that it is? Maybe I am a bit mistaken.
