FRUSTRATION! could someone help?

Every photo I see of an late model XT 250 on the internet is completely different. Sometimes I see '89 models that look like the old style bikes, ie (the long horizontal fuel tank), and photos of '84 models that look like the new style. Why this inconsistency? Can someone show me a photo of an '89 XT250? Is it because people just don't know what bike is what and don't get the years right? Or is it that between a 4 or 5 year period two different looking styles were released. Take a look at the links to understand what I mean.

This is supposed to be an '84 model

This is supposed to be an '89 model

I'm very confused. I'd appreciate some help. Thank you

I'd believe the second one is a "79, not a '89. Maybe a typo? Looks to be a monoshock, the first one is newer for sure, looks like an 80-84.

Nah, it can't just be a typo, at least I don't think. I was just searching google now, and found this,

Just to confuse me. See I'm interested in this 89 XT250 and I wanna know exactly what it looks like before I drive out into the sticks. This is very peculiar.

And then there's this which is the '80 to '84 service manual.

found this, reckons the XT 250's where basically the same bike between 1980 to 1991.

If thats the case, why are they completely different bikes, (the first photo and second photo)?
