Total NewB looking for bike...

Hey everyone, my brother is going to buy an atv in a couple of weeks and im looking for a bike that i can take off-roading/trail riding with him...
Here's my info...
Motorcycle Exp: 0 !!!
Height: 6'
Weight: 170

I have no idea what brand/type of bike to buy, but i would prefer an older one I could learn on and not get hurt too badly on.

Thanks all.

I think a Honda XR 250 (4-stroke) or a Kawasaki KDX 200 (2-stroke) would be a great bike for you. Both bikes are relatively low-maintenance and very reliable. Both have been around for several years, so you shouldn't have much trouble finding a used one that fits your budget.

What is your budget? Even without knowing that, I am thinking Kawasaki KDX.

I am currently on a 92 kx250 kawasaki. riding exp is limited to a street bike so im a newbie also. The kx has alot of raw power. definietly not refined power like the newer bikes out now. im around the same size as you i weigh a little more. I think that it is greatly possible to get in trouble with my bike. tkae it easy cause it will definitely eat you alive. i shoulda prolly went with a 125 but i wanted a 250. im glutten for punishment. lol but in my defense i have a friend that is a great rider and is showing me the correct ways to do things . if ya can get on a 250 and ride it i would say do that and see how it feels to you. if it feels like it is going to be to much for you go with the 125. that is just my newbie opinion so that it as that a newbie one but i think im pretty close to what your thinkin. hope i helped a little

I'd say Kawasaki KDX 200 or 220

If hes a complete newb, go for the xr, just because of maintanence ( i know theres not a lot on the kdx, but still) also, get a subscription to a motorcycle magazine, and read up a ton! Good luck!

I think it would help to know what type of riding you plan to do. If you plan on riding in the dunes I doubt a KDX anything or XR250 would be the best choice no matter how bad anybody would try to make you think that. If you plan on just riding trails through the woods than either bike would be a great choice. If you are a low maintenance type of person then the XR would be THE ticket as it's pretty much just add gas riding. If you don't mind doing a little work like reeds, rings, & plug type stuff then the KDX would be in the running as well. Also sort of depends if you want 2 stroke power or 4 stroke power. If your brother is getting a 4 stroke quad then maybe sonsider a 4 stroke bike and same for 2 stroke.

I'd say a kdx200 or 220 or an xr250 or 400. All of them are are pretty low maintanence. Try and ride a few different bikes and get one you feel confortable on.
