Help me pick a rifle out boys

So I get this call from my Dad this morning telling me about this problem he's had for a while around his property. Seems the rabbit population is getting out of control after hours. They have completely consumed the lawns around the house and they leave loads of crap pebbles everywhere.

So, he wants to find an air rifle (pellet) with a night scope (just after dusk is when they are really active around his house). Its my understanding that you really dont want to buy a scope that is not calibrated for the recoil of a rifle. In other words it would be best to buy the two together (correct me if Im wrong here fellas).
Im looking for suggestions on the air rifle/scope combo. The scope has to be good in low to no light conitions.By the sound of my Dad's voice money isnt an object on this one (except spending 2 grand on night vision scope). He's pissed!
Id like to find some kind of single pump (or semi-auto if they make it) so he can get multiple targets more effectively.

Anyway, you guys with all the up to date knowlegde on guns plz chime in.

You should probably seek something that is CO2 powered. About the scope, I know nothing of whick you speak. I do know that once you mount a scope, you have to zero it, which is basically adjusting it to your shooting style. The process is simple, choose a known range, sight in, fire 3-5 rounds into the target, check your shots (which should be in a tight group), compare that to where you were aiming, adjust the clickers on the scope, do it again until you get it right. This process goes for all firearms that are new to you, people don't all hold guns the same way.

I bought my pellet gun at GI Joe's and it doesn't use C02 it's doesn't even pump. It shoots one pellet at a time and it can do some serious damage, the pellet it uses is lead, one time I shot a piece of wood from across my yard and the pellet almost made it through, the piece of wood was about 3/4" thick, It could easily kill a rabbit. You just put the pellet inside, close it, then shoot. It's pretty cool. It came with a laser sight on it. The refile cost about $55.00

My pellet gun of choice is the inexpensive Winchester Model 1000X.
It is a single shot break-barrel type rifle. It comes with a nice scope that is built to withstand the recoil of a break-barrel gun.
It fires the pointed .177 cal pellets at 1000 FPS
I'm not sure that a night vision scope will stand up to the heavy recoil of such a rifle.
Maybe a laser sight would be best in this situation.

Against the law here to shoot game after sundown without the proper license, and I think that is restricted to coons and frogs.

Get a book on trapping. When I was a kid, my pal and I had 50 some odd traps between us, and we trapped grounhogs for money. A couple of groundhogs can devistate a bean field in short order.

You are so right, and they are vile creatures too......meaner than a JYD.

A .25-06 is the best ground hog trap known to man.

BTW, don't skimp on the pellet gun. The cheap crossman and daisy models are not as powerful as they were years ago. I recently bought a crossman 760 pump gun for my kids and it will barely take down a chipmunk. Spend the extra money for a quality piece and it will serve you well.

I decided to go with the Gamo Varmint Hunter w/ a scope/laser sight/flashlight combo. Pretty trick, it has buttons located where your front hand fingers would be. That way you can toggle on/off while in position. And with 1000+pfs muzzle velocity it won't have a problem taking out a 1-2lb mexican rabbit.

That IS a nice gun, no CO2 cartridges to deal with, and 1200 FPS!
I use my old Ruger 22 with shorts, but it is a loud enough to scare them if you miss. The air rifle sounds good.

4-strokes/turbines and jets are for airplanes, cars and trucks. 2-stokes are for dirt-bikes. If you don't think so... well then you have never ridden a comparably sized 2-stroke!
