running KDX without lighting coil

Hi there, just after a bit of ignition advice.

When I pulled apart my 87 motor for rebuild I found the lighting coil was broken (windings hanging out). I took it out and pulled its wires out of the loom (green and yellow).

Is it ok to run with just the ignition coil?

A quick spin of the crank by hand gives a pulse of around 3v. Does that sound right? Is that low due to the speed of the turn or just low full stop?

My brother's 200 has one, but it's blown. It just needs replacing. No headlight anyway right now.

The bike runs fine without it.
