Using gas when starting

Ok i always here people say you should not use any gas when starting the bike, But why? Is it only because of the backfire at times. i sometimes forget not to use it and honestly it makes the bike fire faster so whats wrong with it? thanks

I think what you see a lot of people do, and why it's said to leave your hand off the throttle, is they will twist it every kick.. It's just a reaction. Which can easily flood the bike.

Basically, if you need to give it gas to get it started, it's not jetted properly.
