There are a few reviews for handguards (Cycra, Powermadd) on www.mxpreview.com.

Knee guards: good things to have. They don't need to be too long, just long enough so that the top of the boot will hold them in place.

Elbow Guards: Mine are integrated into my chest protector, which holds them in place really well. I was never happy with independent elbow pads.

Asterisk get's my vote for knee protection, break your kneecap a couple times and you'll understand how important that floating bone is.

Elbow guards are really personal fitment. Some work better for me than others so I see what's available and try them on. I had a pair of Thor that I liked but lost so I replaced them with some Fox units that I didn't like so I replace those with a differnt style of Fox a few years later that I like alot.
