Bike help
So i pretty much know nothing about dirt bikes. I'm a wakeboarder and am always around the motorcross atmosphere and it looks super fun. Also all of my friends ride and i want to give it a shot. I'm about to start looking around for my first bike, and i have no clue where to start. Take into consideration i have never ridden a dirt bike before. Any information will help. Thanks
1) your physical size (both height and weight are important)
5' 10" 165 pounds
2) what do you plan to ride- MX/SX tracks, woods, fields with friends or ?????
Tracks
3) Do you have any riding experience?
None what so ever
4) Do you think you will race ?
Possibly
5) Are you mechanically inclined and will you be doing your own bike work?
Friends can help
6) Do YOU have a preferance to a brand/ motor choice (2 or 4 stroke)?
Not really, my buddies say 4 stroke...
7) Do you have a dealer close by your home that you might use and what brand(s) does he carry?
All brands
8) How much ($) do you plan to spend on a bike?
I'm planning on buying used, i really don't know
9) Your age?
16

if you are looking for a 4 stroke, get a 250f, but be prepared to shell out some cash,if not a 125 2 stroke. but you could REALLY mod a 125 ts, for the price of getting a fairly stock 250f... just what i have to say

If you are buying used a 125 2 stroke is the safest route as even if you buy someone's problems it can be fixed for a reasoanble amount of money and they are great starter bikes. 250 four strokes are great bikes that are a big advantage over 125's on the track but buying them used can lead to your wallet parting with large cash if you get someone elses problem's.
If it was me personally buying used I'd find the newest/best maintained RM or YZ 125 that I could get my hands on and ride that until I could afford a new 250F.

Chili, when you say get a 125 until i can afford a new 250f, are you talking about a 125 2 stroke or 4?
And about how much does a new 250f cost?

he ment a 125 2 stroke,(a 125 4 stroke would be way to small) a BRAND new 250f would be around $6,700(2009 rmz 250) give or take a few hundred... i agree with chili though

ya i kind of figured he meant a 2 stroke. One of my friends just told me today he is gunna sell his bike. It is an 04 crf 250. He told me he would sell it to me for around 2500, is that a good price? And you talked about buying someone elses problems earlier, i know he wouldn't do me wrong and sell me something bad. Would this be worth looking in too?

I think $2500 for that bike is a little too much, but it depends on its condition. There are several that have sold on Ebay lately for around $2K. These are tough times for some and they are willing to sell their toys for less than they are worth. Of course, knowing the guy wont sell you a piece of crap is worth something. Check out the link. Green $ means it sold, red means it didnt.

ok thanks, but what do you think a bike like that would be worth? I mean he told me he was gunna try to sell it for that much but he would prolly sell it to me for a little cheaper since me and him are pretty good friends.
