Hey guys, nice to be here.

I've wanted a little bike for a long time and thought I might as well get one for the summer. However, I don't have any knowledge about bikes, at all. I've never ridden one and I don't know what i'm looking for really. As an inexperianced biker, I wondered if any of you would be able to help me out? I'm just after a cheap, easy to ride bike that can do plenty of miles on and off road. It doesn't have to be new....just don't break down every few miles.

If any of you could help me out with some recommendations for a pure starter bike, it'd be appreciated. I probably have about £300 or $500 to spend on this and then I'll upgrade later, if I enjoy it.
