Question What are the chances of me choosing my number?

I want to race along w/ my buddy this year. However neither of us have raced before so we dont have numbers.

My questions are, do they appoint us a number? Or can we choose it? Also, say I want the number 135... Will I be able to run this in the C class? I heard 1-199 are for A and B riders, and the rest are for C riders. And one last question, if I were to be appointed a number, is it possible that I may work my way up to A or B and change over to 135?
Thanks

As long as your ridding in the C class it doesnt really matter what number you are! It all depends on your AMA district rules. Like in mine they would like to see you have the last 3 digits of your AMA number on there, Like my last 3 digits are 861, and that is what I run, I use to run 13 but decided to change. it only really matters when you are following a series and numbers are apointed to you. But as for local races, is mostly first come first serve number whise!

We are in AMA district 16 and here you can select your number. Each class reserves 1-10 for the top 10 from the previous season. 10 and up is open to anyone. In Feb when you renew your district membership you may keep your number from the previous season but if you want a new number or move to a new class you have to put your request and if the previuos owner doesn't renew or it was available you get it. They ussually ask you to request several different ones in order of preferance.

The number 116 was popular at DW02 this year. The spodely riders new if someone saw it upside down they would know who to call.

Speaking of that... I requested 911 from D-17, they gave me 92. Go figure. I'm going for it again this year. :silly:

D22 is mostly first come, first served. If you apply for the District card early, you can request a number. I happened to get 59 a couple of years ago, and thought the 2 digit number meant I was really fast, so I have chosen to keep it. I have a kdx200 with license plate, handgards, and headlight and plush enduro suspension, weigh 270, and do not like to leave the ground. I race New Hartford once or twice a year. That is all the motorcross I do. If you want to choose a number, probably better get your dist. application in pretty early. I am a lot slower than most C riders, but I race over 30 B. That class is a lot more safe than the C class.
