CRF 250 shift shaft and shift drum Polishing

My CRF250 is a little stiff when it comes to shifting and I want to try something to loosen it up. I polished the shift shaft and shift drum on my last bike and it worked wonders on making the shifting smoother. I want to do the same thing on my CRF but i was looking at a parts diagram of the shifter assembly and it looks like it uses a different kind of shifting mechanism. Has anyone tried this before?

I'm going to open up my bike and see what I can do to make the shifting smoother but I would like to have a plan of attack before I open it up.
