Timing Chain Tension

i've searched for this but couldn't find what i was looking for.
Here's my Q. How do i give the timing chain on my 83 xr250 more tension and how much tension should it have.

thanks all.....

I'm not sure on a bike that old but I would think it has an automatic tensioner. If so and you think your cam chain is too noisy or has too much slack, could be that the chain is stretched(worn out)beyond what the auto tensioner can compensate for. Which wouldn't be surprising given the age of the bike. Which means it's time for a rebuild or new chain anyway.

thanks, yeah the chain could be stretched. The bike's to old for me to worry about replacing the timing chain i'd rather sell it and get something newer.
