Which bike is better for mx? The cr or the kx 500? Which bike is more reliable? Im not really woried about which one has more power because Im sue they both have moreeee than enough . I am more concerned about power characteristics and handling. The mx track I would be riding it at is a really fast track. mostly sweepers and nice straights. The jumps arent that technical but they are big.

The Honda might be more reliable, and if it is not, then surely the KX is the most reliably MX bike ever built. I had a -97 and a -99 CR5. The KX has a power valve, making it possibly slightly more rideable, but the Honda is no problem either and the KX is butt-ugly. The Honda at least looks like it was made in the '90s, not the '70s

I have owned both and I have to say I like the CR better. It looks better, handles better, never breaks, and it has more modern ergos. I have also noticed that parts are way cheaper from Honda as well. I went to buy a few of the bolts that hold the plastic on for the KX. The Kaw versions were two dollars each. The Honda versions were 35 cents. Now my KX is being Honda parts anytime they will work without problem.

The KX is more stable at really high speeds and you can buy them new all the way to 04 which is nice. The powervalve does add one more gadget to break/ require maintenace and I don't think it is worth it. Even with the powervalve the power is not smooth and KX500's are notoriously hard to jet. When the non-powervalved Honda is jetted correctly it is smoother than the KX anyhow.

If you have the money you may want to check into a Service Honda CR500AF. That is the only way to get a truly modern open class 500 two-stroke.

Just a few random things I have noticed. Both bikes are great machines to ride and both a dependable. They will run without a hitch on maintenance schedules that would leave any new thumper dead. They will also beat them to the first turn. After that..... well I guess that depends. I

Hope that helps and sorry it was a disjointed post. I am in a hurry.......Dioxide

Sounds like the only things the kx has on the cr is that its still made now and it has a powervalve. Nobody brought up how the two compare in jumping? Well I'm asking. Which bikes suspension is better for motocross? Thanks for the info so far guys.

I thought that I heard that the KX500 was discontinued this year?

As far as I know when the kxf 450 comes out it will be discontinued. The 450 is coming out in '06.
