Looking to upgrade from KDX220

As you can see from the thread title, I'm looking to upgrade from my KDX220. But a bit of background first: I started riding dirt bikes in early April - this year. Started with an XR200 (ahh!), quickly upgraded to a KDX220. Now, before April I had zero biking experience. No cross-country, no street bikes, no nothing. Well, because of my location I've been riding darn near every day - probably 2 - 7 hours of actual riding a week.

Now, I'm looking to upgrade again. I've ridden only a few other bikes: DRZ-400S, too heavy, and a KX250 with some go-fast mods. The KX handles like a dream compared to the KDX, especially in the tough gnarly rocky sections (of which there are lots here in Wyoming). The top-end power is nice, but my skills at working the clutch are lacking.

What would really be perfect, I think, is a bike with low end grunt similar to the KDX220, but with real power up top - and some great suspension! With my size, a light weight bike is important. But there are just too many options!

My dimensions are 5'11" and 150 without riding gear. I ride trails exclusively, both technical single and double wide with steeped corners. I would rate my agressivenes at 6 out of 10. Altitude is 6500 - 11000.

The ktm 250 or 300 exc sound perfect for you.

Nah buy either a GasGas enduro250 or a tm 250e.

I'd say a GasGas EC250 or KTM250EXC or KTM300EXC would probably fit the bill. If you want a light flickable bike, either the GasGas EC200 or KTM200EXC would also work. All of these bikes are trail and race ready, so I'd suggest going to a local dealer and do some test riding.

Yeah, I bet there are Gas Gas, KTM and TM dealers on every corner in Wyoming. The KTM 200 EXC is a pretty sweet bike for someone your size, but if you are having challenges working the clutch on a 250, it only gets worse on a smaller bike. At the rate you are progressing, you are headed for a 250 motocrosser anyway. I'd suggest getting a 250 now and gearing it down a little so you don't need to work the clutch so hard. It will be the last bike you buy for a very long time.
