Help deciding

I am looking at a showroom new, leftover, 1999 KX250 for $3899. This is brand new, never started. This is vs. a 2004 YZ250 for $4899. Does anyone know of any problems the 99 KX250 might have? Does that price sound decent for a leftover 99? I know it's strange that there is a 99 still on the floor but it's there and they want to get rid of it. I'm sure the YZ is much nicer but money is tight and it's a big decision.

Thanks,
Chris

I don't think I'd get the KX, on the simple fact that sure, it's brand new, but it's also 5 years old, and only $1000 cheaper than the new YZ250 (which is a way better bike). If they really want to get rid of the KX, they should go lower than that on price, otherwise, I'd go for the 04.

I wouldnt get the KX either. Even though its brand new, its so far behind now. The 2005s are all out, except the CR's , you will be way too many model years behind in my opinion. Even buying the 2004 YZ, you will already be 1 model year behind, but thats not a big deal. When I bought my 2003 YZ250, the 2004s were out, but I wanted a 03 and thats what I bought. If I were you Id definitely get the 2004 bike, and wouldnt even consider the 1999. Yea, its a thousand dollars more, but its 5 years newer. A 2004 model is current, a 1999 is way outdated. Someone will buy that KX for sure, but I wouldnt. Hope you decide on the 04 YZ. Let us know. Mike

The Kelly Blue Book give a Suggested Retail Value of $2785 for the 1999 KX250. I would go to the Kelly Blue Book site and print this out and take it with you. Then i would offer him $2,500 for the bike and come to some type of agreement between that and the actual listed retail value for what he is trying to sell. The 1999 KX250 is an excellent bike and you stated that you are tight on money. By negotiating with him you should be able to get a good deal. If he will not sell for $3,000 or less than that is probably why the bike is sitting on his floor.

W.C. Fields (i think it was) said that there is a sucker born every minute. Don;t be that sucker but someone will come by and buy that bike for full price sooner or later.

Take some time to work the deal!! It's half of the fun.

After one ride, the market value of a used 1999 KX 250 is about $2,500. After one ride on the YZ, its market value is about $3,500. Since they both depreciate $1,400 after your first ride, but the YZ is a much newer model, I'd get the YZ.
