CRF- Checking valve clearance

For the exhaust clearance, are you supposed to check the clearance between the cam and the rocker arm or at the top of each individual valve? I've seen it done each way but I believe that the manual checks it at the cam.

my manual says to check top of ex. valve. just put a piston in it and reshimmed valves. first time, it was interesting. our exhaust valve were at 4 thousands. supposed to be 11. we could hardly get it started and it didn't seem to have as much power as it did before. these bikes seem to be higher maintenence than our modded 125's. during rebuild one of the intake shims got stuck under bucket off to the side. before final assembly i checked the valve clearence and couldn't get the feeler gauge under one of the intake valves took it apart and found it. don't know if it would of bent the valve if kicked over as i caught it. the bike now has its good power now. the little shims cost me $7.00 this could get expensive every time you have to readjust.

The clearance is definitely measured at the top of the valve on the exhaust, and in the center of the cam between the bucket and the cam base circle on the intake.
You're correct vetrider, they will be more maintenance than a 125 two-stroke but hopefully the fun will balance it out.
