Another "what do you call it?" poll

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: gospeedracer---------------------

Okay, we've debated over Truck vs Pick-up and Pop vs Soda vs Coke............. but I think we need to address the really important issue.

Do you call it "Tuna" or "Tunafish"?!! I'm not talking about the live fish that swims in the ocean. I'm talking about tunafish in a can or a tunafish sammy.

I say tunafish. My mom has always called it tunafish, I see tunafish sandwiches on menues and our local grocery store actually has it listed as "tunafish" on the sign above the aisle where the TUNAFISH is located.

Speedy - Lay down and put a cool damp cloth on your forehead. Your brain is overheating.

Close, all that and I've made it my new mission in life to overtake you and aquire the poll queen crown.

And twinny, quit screwin around with my poll!! I have right mind to show up at DW now for sole purpose of kicking your tookus!

Posted by: biglou---------------------

Just got my new tags in the mail for my truck. Under "Kind of Vehicle" it says "Truck". So there.

"Dolphin safe tuna"? Doesn't anyone care about the tuna?!!! Apparently not. Poor tunas.

You can tuna piano, but you can't tunafish...

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

aimeewoman,
I Papakeithman, and many other DRN Peoplememberhumans are membersparticpants of the USAunitedstatesnorthamerican redundancy department of reducing redundant redundancy. We us feel that tunafish is an abomination. and you should cease stop all use of such words lettergroupings.

BTW a rig is a coupled vehicle.... like a truck or motorhome pulling a trailer.

From Merriam-Webster online:

Main Entry: rig[2,noun]
Function: noun
1 : the distinctive shape, number, and arrangement of sails and masts of a ship
2 : EQUIPAGE; especially : a carriage with its horse
3 : CLOTHING, DRESS
4 : tackle, equipment, or machinery fitted for a specified purpose <an oil-drilling rig>
5 : a tractor-trailer combination

Posted by: nikki---------------------

And tunafish isn't in the dictionary, but tuna is.

Posted by: nikki---------------------

And I have retired from Poll Queen and taken the position as vBet Queen.

Posted by: Detonator---------------------

"Tuna fish" is redundant, like saying "heavy 4-stroke," or "Detonator's sexy minivan." It was probably started by music repair persons ("you can tune a piano, but you can't Tuna fish.") It distinguishes it from other fishmeats ("...if I were a sardine, would you kiss me on the can?")

It's an Americanism, and not part of our Canadian vernacular. We do, however, have our own national speech impediments ("can you unthaw the tuna? How can I unweight my 4-stroke?")

BTW it's pickup truck. Anything else is an abomination and should be punishable. 2 arm-curls with a WR450 and an oil/filter change on a KTM 525.

Cheers!

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

right, it's a Class of Truck . . . here's the way it is.
So, as you can plainly see, referring to a pickup as a truck is perfectly acceptable

4 strokes are the future and far superior to 2 stroke bikes.

Posted by: Detonator---------------------

Oh, I agree. The same way that minivans are the future of pick-up trucks. Carpeted bedliner, built-in cap, pneumatic lift tailgate, 7-passenger seating, cupholders for all your brake-fluid, crank oil, rad fluid and aerosol products. And they look foxy.

The real future of dirtbikes lies in cutting-edge turbo diesel technology; it will be fantastic at Harescramble events with dead engine starts. Picture it; the flag drops and the tension mounts to see whose glow-plugs will reach operational temperature first. And we'll just leave them running between motos, lunch break, and at night. And if you come into a corner too hot, the Jake-Brake will scrub off some momentum for you.

Just bugging you 4-stroke types. I have a hint of jealousy toward your power-delivery department, but just a little smugness when you tip over in the mudholes and stall.

Posted by: whyzee---------------------

why can't carpenter ants form unions?
do poll queens get $20 per dance?
4 stroke what? ... Paallhhheaaasee! ... the things are time release grenades on 2 wheels.
it's called a truck!
butter slices at my local cracker barrel are too thin!

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Tuna is a fish.
A Trout is a fish.

Do you call it Troutfish?

What other species is called a Tuna that's not a fish?

That's all the brain power this topic deserves.

Posted by: XRpredator---------------------

I want tuna-safe dolphin

I like chickenbird

Aimeewoman has nice hair and pretty ears

If you don't stop at weigh stations and don't follow the "truck" speed limit, you drive a pickup, just like me.

and Twinspar has been to two (count 'em, TWO!!) N*Sync concerts.

That is all for now.

Our truck speed limit signs have a weight on them. So we can still have a truck. Its called a "light truck".

BTW, its just plain ol tuna.

Tuna Fish Sandwich

Posted by: ktmboy---------------------

The wife made a Tuna casserole last week, and I prepared my famous 'Tuna in white-sauce on toast' recipe tonight. Kind of ironic to spot this thread, as I hadn't eaten any tuna in a long time. Sometimes you just get in that tuna mood though and just can't get enough tuna.
I'm thinking tomorrow it'll be a hamburgercow for me from In 'n Outhambergerfastfoodrestaurant.

Posted by: KelvinKDX---------------------

If you listen closely you can hear aimee saying "fish" after the jingle singers say "tuna"

Posted by: kmccune---------------------

@ the Q-E household, we enjoy Tuna salads and casseroles, as well as Tuna Fish sandwiches!

Posted by: VintageDirt---------------------

Tastes like chickenbird smells like tunafish.

And another thing, it's not Thanksgiving without turkeybird, hampig just don't cut it.

Posted by: KiwiBird---------------------

So is a Flying Fish really a Flying Fish fish or just a Flying?

And therefore shouldn't a Fly just be called a ""?

Vacant minds need to know.

Posted by: ScottS---------------------

God I love these links above- Ultra premium Albecore Tuna, Grilled Tuna recipes Fresh Tuna shipped to your door !

Posted by: ScottS---------------------

Albecore and skipkack are referred to as "tuna fish" to dstinguish them from the "Tuna " which is a different species used for tuna steaks and sushi.

Now some iminds are less vacant than before

Posted by: ScottS---------------------

tuna (1)

tu·na [ tnə ] (plural tu·na, tu·nas)

noun

1. zoology large edible fish: a large fast-swimming, widely distributed marine fish with a tapering body, large forked tail, and pointed head, found in warm and temperate waters. Genus Thunnus.
Also called tunny

2. food tuna flesh: the firm meaty flesh of the tuna, used for food.
Also called tuna fish

[Late 19th century. From American Spanish, of uncertain origin: probably via Spanish atún and Arabic at-tún from Latin thunnus (see tunny).]

Posted by: ScottS---------------------

Ok my limited research indicated that it is called Tuna when its a fish, (with ahead and everything) and " Tuna fish " when it's a processed piace of meat.

So Tuna steaks, for example would be differet than a "tuna Fish" sandwich, which is chopped up.

So a TUNA Sandwich would be a filet of tuna on two pieces of bread. Tuna fish sandwich would be teh chopped up stuff with mayonaisse ( or salad dressing- don't go there)

Posted by: gospeedracer---------------------

ScottS, there's nothing sexier than a man who knows his Tuna. I think I love you.

To the other 4 who voted tunafish, thank you, you are all obviously very gifted individuals.

To the rest of you bite me

Posted by: Rooster---------------------

Speedy, you really need to address this issue. I highly recommend getting in Eddie's TRUCK and you and Pred can head down to the local market and see what the vendors call it. Maybe you can bring home a TRUCK load of TUNA and make some TUNA sandwiches. But no making fish taco's, because we ALL know that that "just aint right"!

Posted by: Rooster---------------------

I have a can of StarKist chunk light 'TUNA IN WATER" here in front of me. The word "fish" appears nowhere on this can.

Ingredients: light tuna, vegetable broth, salt.

Nope, no fish in there, hmmmmmm .....

Posted by: ScottS---------------------

Obviously Starkist didn't get the memo....

Posted by: MudMan125---------------------

Truck.
