It's Official!!
Mike Alessi has signed a 2-year deal with factory Red Bull/KTM.
Mike will contest the 2005 AMA Chevrolet Motocross championships and the 2006 supercross and motocross championships aboard the all-new KTM250F 4-stroke.
The Alessi family believes "This decision will act as a stepping stone to aid Mike in achieving his future goals and ambitions of becoming one of the world's best motocross racers."
Jeff Alessi will continue with Honda racing and will contest the amateur national motocross schedule for the remainder of 2004/2005. Jeff hopes to debut in 2005 in his first professional race, and to continue the relationship with Honda Pro racing well into the future.
Most of Mike Alessi's personal sponsors will be able to make the move as well to the new team, as we look forward to a very successful new season.
Finally we look forward to exciting times in the future for both Mike and Jeff Alessi, and they each grow towards their new goals and future ambitions.
Discuss...

I wonder if they got him cheap.

uh, not AlloyMX!

Posted by: Erick82---------------------

As a KTM rider, I am thinking of going back to Suzuki on my next bike.

Posted by: Clingman---------------------

I'm with Erick82. My next bike wasn't going to be a KTM anyway, but this is icing on the cake.

Posted by: ktmracer---------------------

i could really care less if mike and jeff were on KTM's. i have never bought (or not bought) a bike because of the people on the factory team.

LOL, that moron puts his foot in his mouth everytime he opens it.

I'm sure KTM is pleased to be called a stepping stone, lol

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

What is up w/the MX only deal?? DOes KTM plan on having any kind of SX team?? WHy no SX in 05??

Hopefully KTM will fire Tony

Posted by: WideOpen---------------------

tony allesi doesnt want to race SX in '05

Sometimes it seems like tony is the one riding

i want to see allessi at the first SX in Jan, he's old enough

Posted by: steve125---------------------

We all know Tony is gona be fightin someone in the pits when they go to KTM. I hope either DV or Roncada slap the shint out him, frenchie style of course.

Posted by: biglou---------------------

Ah yes, the ol' "slap and tickle" fest... Those two looked like a couple of grade school girls.

Yeh! it would have been fun to send in Larry, Moe and Curly, to break that up.

Posted by: Offroadr---------------------

Makes you wonder if KTM has a 'Tony keep your mouth shut' clause in the contract

Posted by: bh---------------------

At least he has an excuse now when he cant win anything.

Posted by: DougRoost---------------------

I think this is a big mistake for KTM. Every time he doesn't make the podium it will be because of the bike. Yes, if he wins it would be good, but that's high risk. I believe it will do more harm to KTM than MC did.

not following you there Bro?, while I personaly am not one to buy a brand because bubba,mc,or rc is riding it I'm sure there are a lot of ktm's sitting in people garages because "thats what McGrath rides" (or rode)

Posted by: dirt bike dave---------------------

Judging by the Alloy Gear example, this is a 'can't lose' deal for KTM.

If Alessi wins, the bike looks good. If he does poorly and they fire him, everybody will hail KTM as a company with 'stones', and promptly buy a new SX in appreciation.

Posted by: DougRoost---------------------

Speeed, what I meant by the MC comment was many people viewed his crash on the KTM as what ended his MX career. Reading the prologue of his book, that crash did make him quit. Never mind that the same thing happened years before on a Honda due to the ignition cutting out and nobody said boo about the Honda. Yet in this case many were quick to question KTM's quality due to a bad check valve in his gas vent tube in this case (didn't even know pros run them, I sure don't).

DBD, you raise a good point and I hope you're right.

Posted by: kelsorat---------------------

I remember all the crazy gossip that MC thought the suspension on the KTM's was not SX worthy...blah,blah,blah
Most KTM owners are off-road fanatics with fanny packs and camelbacks anyway, so Alessi doesn't mean crap to them.
However, KTM must have known about this deal while all the dealers were back in Ohio. Why didn't they say anything? I know, because signing the punk, would be seen as a bad move.
While KTM is great at off road rider recruiting, whomever is responsible for SX/MX rider contracts is trigger happy.

Posted by: markthomps---------------------

I believe it's Larry Brooks who gets the "credit" for the SX/MX rider deals. Let me see, he loses a World and 125 Nat'l Champion (Langston) and gets a teenager w/ a nitwit mini-bike daddy who's living vicariously thru his kids. Great job! Be sure to put it first on your resume. [Yes, that's sarcasm, and if it's not LB who's in charge, my advance apologies.]

Posted by: weimedog---------------------

My hope is KTM figures out they have a nightmare waiting to happen with this familiy from a marketing prospective...NO one wants them to win! Takes any good news from that event from the manufacturer of the bike they are riding. If you guage the impact & feed back from the Alloy deal....KTM needs to concider a net loss in sales as a protest from the riding population. This Alessi thing is the best public relations even for Bubba and RC possible. Took the negative public eye off them and put it squarely on the Alessi fan. Those on the fence with Bubba and RC now will CHEER them if they just add a little more humility into that Alessi clan...what a deal for Suzuki (when RC's riding them) and Kawasaki..they couldn't have PAID for this type of emotional capital.

Posted by: ktmdad---------------------

KTM has experience dealing with Tony from Mike's days racing the KTM 50 & 65. Sure that was taken into consideration when this deal was put together.

KTM has a very good lineup for the '05 125 SX team. Now all they need to do is get the 250f in the States to start testing and for the rider's to get use to them.

More disappointed that KTM will not have a single rider in the 250 class.

Doug, yes I follow you now and agree 100%. McGraths book was great I thought. it gave me a whole different perspective on honda.

also I must say I think some GREAT points have been raised in this thread. I honestly dont see the Alessi's gettin far professionally.
unfortunately they are the Lindros's of motocross.

Good point! I am sure they know what there getting themselves into.

Posted by: Vic---------------------

There will be a lot of eyeballs glued to an orange bike, wherever it is in the order. Maybe that's the idea.

Posted by: d36RM racer---------------------

Has anyone realized that during the motocross season Ryno and Alessi are gonna be under the same tent. If little Mike does anything to piss Ryno off he is gonna die

Posted by: jboomer---------------------

I think Ryno's contract is up this season, and I haven't heard anywhere that he's even re-signed with them (or that they're even giving him the option).

Posted by: kelsorat---------------------

I really wish Ryno would move over to the off-road realm full-time. Now if KTM can't work out a deal to have Ryno race the WORCs series or GNCC, then Larry Brooks really does suck.

Posted by: angry jim---------------------

Kelso, I would like to see Ryno do the WORCS too! Then I could get lapped by yet another fast vet rider.

It's not like KTM has people kicking down there door to ride mx/sx for them. At least they are going for a young and talented lot instead of beat down veterans. Which by the way Langston has seemed to turn into this year. He got old overnite. His wrists may never heel properly, and they gave him many chances at KTM, good luck to him at Pro Circuit.

Posted by: DougRoost---------------------

It hurts as a KTM loyalist to say this, but I understand the MX'ers out there fear Langston more than any other....because he's the most out of control and likely to cause them to wreck!

Posted by: boogbeater---------------------

[Mr Beater said a bunch of stuff with disguised expletives that translates to the following]
All of my fellow dirt bikers spend a lot of time just disparaging the young man. I realize he may be a rather confident young fellow but he is capable of more speed than anyone making comments on the board.

If I had a chance to be this young fellow, I'd be espousing my demeanor as well.

Posted by: MrLuckey---------------------

Pred

Posted by: YZ165---------------------

If you chose to "espouse your demeanor" as much as he does, we'd flame you too.

Posted by: zio---------------------

I'm glad everybody hates Mike Alessi. I can't stand him. Reminds me of a well-to-do kid I went to school with. He was arrogant & mean. No one would beat him up, though, because all the girls liked him and his BMW. I blame women.

All we can hope for is a wicked case of diarrhea during a national, a few pimples, and maybe chronic hallitosis.

Posted by: super rat---------------------

I like him. GO ALESSI!! He is gonna kick MC's ass this weekend and you will all be eating your words!! Mike Alessi is the best thing to happen to motocross since the mono shock!

Posted by: marcusgunby---------------------

I think its bad for KTM that Alessi is so disliked, however i think he will fit in ok, they are a arrogant company and probably like his style, i will get people asking me why i say this but they are im afraid, the top level right down to the dealers-not all of them but too many.
