New bike - well for me anyway

I finally got a new (newer?) bike last weekend - a 2004 Beta Rev3 that belonged to my brother
. Its in really good condition as he's only ridden it six or seven times, and he also doesn't have the 'over the bars' problem that usually effects me.
It should be interesting to see if I can 'manage' the power of a 250 - the old 200 used to fling me off into the bushes fairly frequently. I can hardly wait.
The only problem being that I slipped a disc in my lower back about a month ago at work, so I can't ride the thing yet. I will try and have a limited play about on saturday afternoon - just to see if I should be entering our National Champs in late October. After seeing the obvious pain that Henk was in after breaking his back, I'm getting some perspective on how uncomfortable back injuries can be.

Awesome Wayne! Your gonna love the bigger motor, I'm sure. You'll just use less rpm to do things. In fact, you'll probably find it easier to ride in most conditions.
Be sure to give us that ride report after the first ride!

VERY COOL! I've been considering a change too, just gota' figure out if that would mean my wife might be considering changing me out too!

Wayne,
That's cool.
Be patient with your back. Allowing your back to heal is better than having to deal with a constant problem. I know from experience.

Yes my wife is thinking that she has some competition in the garage, and is probably wondering if it was such a good idea to let me loose with the cheque book. Never mind she'll get over it eventually
I can't wait to get stuck and try the thing out properly. I have had a few limited rides on it when it belonged to my brother, but wasn't really trying very hard as I didn't want to scratch it for him.
The bike seems to be easier to balance on than my '00 Rev3, and definitely steers much more precisely because it doesn't have the upside down forks. There is also a lot more mid range and top end power which will take some getting used to as it seems to wheelie a lot more than the 200 - maybe the improved rear suspension is just getting more traction. The main thing is that everything is smooth and easy to use, and doesn't rattle as much as on the old bike. I'm hoping for a bit of an improvement in my scores, but we'll just have to wait and see........ you never know it may be the start of the next step in my riding techniques
I still haven't mastered the endo with one and a half twists yet!

Great to hear of your new bike! Watch that back!

Well I had another short ride on Saturday while we were setting out a trial. I couldn't start the bike because of my back, but did at least manage to get the wheels a bit muddy. I was lucky that my brother came along, so he started the bike for me - which was a bit embarassing.
On a fairly big hill that we've used at the last couple of trials, I found that the bike just seemed to get so much traction that I was a bit shocked at how easy I made it up. My '00 Rev3 is a 200 and the suspension is set up really soft (for getting good traction), and I was surprised at how the '04 made even the A grade line so effortless. (I am definitely NOT an A grade rider, so I was quite chuffed at having got up the A grade line!).
Also the brakes are a huge improvement - it seems that the ride around dragging the brakes and then hosing off with cold water trick is something that should be done a bit more often that I was doing on my old bike. The difference is huge, and I didn't think that the brakes on my old bike were that bad.
Its just soooo nice to ride - I can't wait until my back is better
- I think I'll book in to see the physio later today and get my recovery back on track.
