Ohlins or Re-valved stock fork

I have been kicking around the idea of getting an Ohlins fork from a Cannondale and fitting it to my '97 CR250. The fork would be from a Cannondale MX 400.
Would this be a wise move or would I be better off just getting my stock fork re-valved. The difference in cost between the two is only a few hundred dollars.
I have heard that the first year Ohlins forks are off a little bit in the valving. I know that I will have to get a Cannondale front axle and also get some new spacers made, otherwise as far as I know it is a direct fit.
So what are your thoughts?

showas are the best you can get-they just need setting up.

Thanks, marcusgunby.
Jeremy said basicly the same thing. Guess I will save my $$$ and go with a re-vavle. I just couldn't resist the lure of the Ohlins name.

Woody,
I just bolted a set of the same Ohlins forks on my 99 CR 250. They bolted right up, no axle or spacers needed, I think they are needed for the newer CR's. The performance of these forks is unbelievable compared to my CR 250 stockers or the pro-action valved showa's on my CRF 450. Spring rate is very close for me and also the valving is right on.

Well let’s hear some more responses. It 1 and 1 right now, if possible could someone give me some technical info on why one fork is better than the other such as design differences, construction, etc.
I know that the Showas are twin chamber; I don't know what the Ohlins are.
My engineer head wants to be able to rationalize to make sure that my money is being spent wisely.
Thanks

Go with the re-valve. You can get a bit plusher with the OHLIN but in the long run stock w/revalve is less expensive and will work good enough to not warrant the xtra cash.
I went with 'Zokes/WP's over the Ohlin on all of my GasGas for this reason and the cost is only $650 for the Ohlin.
My new VOR will have the Ohlins only because they come with them stock.

twin chambers are the best design IMO. The ohlins at least older ohlins was very old tech.

Specific purpose Ohlins are very good. Not all Ohlins forks are the same. Our TM Ohlins are different internally than the same year GasGas.. I was told the Ohlins floating around the net are no better than Kayaba Stock forks, they are dated as Marcus points out.
