I remember the first time we went to the brand new restaurant McDonalds. It was a great and first outing for all 5 of us kids.
standing in line we all made our orders from oldest to youngest, my turn came and I got a smack (tap) on the back of the head from my dad .. Cause i wanted a Hot-Dog
Old memories

Good stuff Tony, not that I'm quite that old but I remember a lot of that stuff. Heck I was the guy that pumped the gas, checked the oil, cleaned the windshield and aired the tires! At least I didn't have a dorky uniform though!

OK, I was real small when alot of this stuff was around. The nickel baseball card paks made me think of 5 cent Charms suckers, Ice Cubes (those little foil wrapped choclate squares they kept in the freezer section), Matchbox Cars, or later Hotwheels, and all of the other goodies I would save that 25 cent allowance to buy. Our kites were paper, and our swords were rolled up newspapers. Summer nights were spent playing hide-n-go-seek where our entire block was the playing-field. Watching the bats chase bugs under the streetlights was cool. Once in awhile pop would treat us to dinner at the local A&W stand which had car-hops that hung your tray of food on your car door. Then it was off to a drive-in movie. We'd bring an ice-chest full of sodas and a paper shopping bag full of pop-corn.
Those glass soda bottles were a nice way for a young man to earn money too. We'd go around with a wagon and collect as many as we could find, then turn them in for cash.
And we loved and respected our teachers back then, and they loved and respected us, and they expected a lot from us.
It's funny, now that my oldest is 23, and my youngest is 17 I laugh when they reminesce about the '80s, and wonder what kind of fond memories they'll have 30 years from now.

Things sure aren't what they used to be. And my sons feel sorry for my "neglected" childhood. You know- no video games, 3 channels of television, no microwave oven, no pc's or internet, and on and on...

Terry's just sad because the trees he planted as a young man are now ....

...

... petrified!

Born in 1962, I think that I caught the tail-end of most of those memories. Those born shortly after my year would experience a very different childhood. Kind of makes me happy that I'm now "old".

Can you imagine kids playing flashlight tag now....the entire neighborhood would be on the phone to the police...how sad.

I'm hoping that my kids childhood memories include riding dirtbikes with dad, especially our trips to Dirtweek.
