What do you guys love most about riding?

What do you guys like more?

Why did you get into dirt biking.
I know many people get out there and tear it up, the're like "man my cr250 is so fast" but I on the other hand think differently. Sure I like the bursts of speed, but I love the 'nature' connection. What I loved most about my old bike (1974 AG100) was not the way it handled, not how dodgy the suspension was, and not how slow the motor was) imagine waking up at 5 in the morning and you and your mate hopping on the back and cruising through a trail, fresh air hitting you face (did not have goggles) and then shutting the bike off, haveing tost on a little fire, and just chilling back. What about the while exploration factor. Thats what I love exploting new areas, finding old tracks and trails. Anyone feel the same?

-regards
Dmitri.

Floating!

Posted by: sportpedlover---------------------

i love flyin around my trails and mud flyin all over the place

Posted by: ktmboy---------------------

The thrill of conquering terrain that looks un-doable at first, the scenery, and the adrenaline rush of a big 2-stroke coming on the pipe!

Posted by: killerbeez 75---------------------

Its that rush you get when you go flyin over a set of doubles or hit that jump and clear it for the first time, the one you could never do.The great people you meet out riding or on line and make new riding partners.Any body looking for someone new to ride with let me know.

Ill keep my ass a little closer to the dirt thank you very much.

I like riding new places I have never been before, I guess thats the explorer in me.

Posted by: TrailHead---------------------

second that ironworker ... but only cause I'm jealous.

I trail ride for the adventure. This is my first year riding since I was a kid and I have ridden, probably 1500 miles since April. I have enjoyed challenging riding, wildlife, and beautiful scenery.

I want to go fast and will be doing some track work to improve my skill and have some fun. I have discovered that not only does different riding disciplines require different skill sets but that those skill sets are complimentary and really improve my ability to go fast on the trail.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

I'm in it for the air! Not huge air, but any air is fun.

Posted by: dkinaev---------------------

...yeah so true, you know that feeling when you are going fast on a trail, you ...hover over everyhing..you feel really light

Posted by: Vampyrz---------------------

I definately love the nature connection Dmitri. Putting serenely down a previously unknown dirt road and have several deer pause to give you a curious look as they cross the road is pretty grand. Knowing that (this time anyway) I wasn't ripping along and take one in the side panel is even grander.

Posted by: nikki---------------------

I'm another air-time nut - I love it! That's one reason why Cooperland is so much fun!

Posted by: jaction125---------------------

I can't believe nobody has said it yet,--Wheelies!

(Insert pic of Ivan here)

But, I digress, I also love the feeling of exploration in the woods, and the airtime at the track. I guess the only things I don't like are-broken stuff that end the ride, and putting the bike in the truck after the ride.

Posted by: dante---------------------

I love landing smooth... I love being up in the air spoting my landing and landing smooth... Geting comfortable with a bigger jump than before, clearing it everytime not even thinking about it, then trying to whip it a little... After a rain in the warm desert sun...

Posted by: dkinaev---------------------

...nice where i ride in au i dont have any desert, mostly dry bush, Eveywhere I go there are kangaroos, some 3 times the size of me. I remember once i was cruisong down a track, and a little kangaroo jumped out, I though nothing of it and kept going. Then i look and there is a kangaroo (the mother) like 2.5 meters tall sitting on the trail. It was also startinmg to was;lk towards me. I took no chances and locked up the rear. Did a U turn and left peacefully. lol

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Nature connection? Yeah, I did the connection of my manufactured rubber knobs ripping some natural grass into the air... Screw the hang time stuff, the older I get the more important the risk-reward thing gets.

I just dig ripping up some terrafirma... wheelies out of turns, carrying the front wheel over an off-camber, laying it over in a deep berm... Wicking on the throttle just so...

Getting my bike ready during the week.
Loading my trailer up.
Getting to this weekends riding spot, unloading, gearing-up...
all of it.

Posted by: Rich Rohrich---------------------

The best part for me is getting to hang out with my friends and sharing the experience. Even if you're just riding around a marker in a little section of grass, it's a good time if your friends are there laughing and rubbing plastic with you.

Posted by: OnAnySunday---------------------

Yea, i guess the "nature connection" is a cool thing.
Sometimes i'll just stop, way out in the middle of nowhere, and just admire the scenery.
It can be stunning out here in NewMexico!
(sorta desolete, but still stunning!)
I can enjoy a putt putt ride just as much as rippin it.

Although there are times that i would really like to have a speedometer.
Wonder how fast a 650R is goin when you get it pinned in 5th?? hee hee hee!!!!

Posted by: dkinaev---------------------

Yeah nailing is also heaps fun. I wonder how accurate those little push-bike digital spedos are. They are probably designed for max 60 km/hr (40mph) after that they will get innacurate. BTW car spedos are pretty innacurate stock anyway especially the faster you go the more deviation there is. So I wonder if i can go to K-mart buy a spedo for 20bucks stick on the little sensor on one of the front wheel spokes and the other on the forg guard (measure diffrerence) and put the little thing on double sided tape on the handle bar pad. My mate had his 2001 KTM 200exc up to 160 km/hr with me on the back. ...yup he is crazy

Posted by: shnalln---------------------

The thing I like best is not thinking of anything else while I ride. Ridin' dirtbikes just makes everything right in the world!

Posted by: evenslower---------------------

I'm with you shnalln. I'm not totally sure riding dirtbikes make everything right in the world, but I sure do enjoy the time spent not giving a damn about anything but the next turn, or jump, or setting up to pass your buddy in a section he's getting lazy in only to have him pass you back b/c he's doing a jump you're rolling, or oh crap that tree isn't going to move!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Detonator---------------------

I like meeting new folks when I'm out on a trail ride. There's a commonality between dirtbikers that creates friendships very quickly. I haven't met too many serious off-roaders who were jerks (talking 2 wheels, here).

I like showing newbies around, and learning about new riding spots from seasoned folks. I also like laughing at/being laughed at after endos, loop-outs, washouts, and general spodely behaviour. And I'm at that age where my daughter will soon be ready for a bike...sharing this with my child is going to be really special.

Posted by: truespode---------------------

I'm with Rich. Hanging with friends is the best.

Also, the biggest air that Gomer gets is when he passes gas

Ivan

Good Thread! Here is my list - I only ride about 8 times a year:

* The anticipation when I finally get a ride scheduled
* Hanging with my friends in the outdoors versus a bar
* The thrill of riding - it is a rush - I am a woods rider
* Bench racing afterwords - It reminds me to commit to riding as much as I can even though it is a logistical challenge
* Feeling sore the next couple of days - good reminder to get out more
* Most Important - Stress relief - Job, Family, etc.. I have done many things that fall into the 'stress relief' category but nothing does more for my mental health than riding in the woods with my buddies!!!!

Posted by: Shig---------------------

There are so many great things about riding. Here are a few of my favs.

The first ride on a new bike...it's like Christmas and your birthday all wrapped into one. Spending hours in the garage just staring at it is cool too.

The first time you clear a jump or connect a line that has been haunting you is so sweet.

Flying and styling...there are not many sports where you can get this kind of hangtime.

Posted by: KAY DEE EXER---------------------

Usually for me it's the sound of breaking bones, skin being scraped off and the sweet smell of concusion.

Posted by: thumbs---------------------

I do it for the money ....................oh wait, I don't paid to do this stuff. I love to do it for every reason mentioned in every previous post with the exception of post #25.

This needs to be deleted, No?

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

#1 One thing i like is teaching a kid how too do a top end on their bike.. Have them disassemble it, install the new parts and start it, nothing beats their smile..

#2 Meeting some really cool people!!

#3 Roosting quad riders

He rides *one of those* and he's from that funny, upside down island way around there...we make special exceptions for people like that.

See Shig at Lakewood for your hall pass.

Posted by: super rat---------------------

Come on Gomer, you know I'm never gonna get a hall pass over here. LOL

And whats *one of those*?

Posted by: Casper250---------------------

1. racing on the weekends(18 this season).
2. coming in to work on monday shot.
3. doing that wheelie/stoppie/jump for the first time, that's the biggest rush.
4. that when i ride, its all I think about. money/job/girlfriend/stress all fade into the background.

Posted by: KAY DEE EXER---------------------

It's so good to see we all have such a good sense of humour..... Not... Don't be sooks, It WAS a joke... Get over it. Its not like I was making fun of George Bush or anything....

Posted by: drz400e---------------------

I go out riding with my 6 year old son and my wife. A great family sport.

Posted by: bsmith---------------------

Unfortunately I don't have many riding friends, so for me it's how high I can climb
The bigger and Nastier the hill the better, and I don't mean some pansy ars sand dune, I mean rocks, ruts, roots, and they need to be Steaper then Goerge Bush's forehead

BTW I fear air time, white men can't jump

Posted by: TrailHead---------------------

bsmith ... you should come to Idaho What you described is what we call trail riding

Posted by: mtk---------------------

Everything but crashing.

Posted by: dkinaev---------------------

...puddles always look flat from the top.. what hides under them is always a mystery and can result in hillarious moments. Watching your friend, ride a cr250 through a puddle with a varied bottom surface and then putting his foot down and having to jump off to save the bike from drowning...

Posted by: morbidsmurf---------------------

I love riding at night on a slighly foggy night. I love riding at night threw the miles of apple orachads aroung my house. I think love seeing all of the deer who graze at night around me and just cruzing untill the sun comes up.
