OK well here goes...
I currently have a highly highly modded yz 125. It probably has about $1200 in it. I think I want a 250f though. I love the 125 but the 250's sound great. The only prolem is I cant afford what I want. I would like to get a '03 or newer yz250f because of the much lighter wieght than previous models. Just cant get it though. So I can get a '01 to '02 yzf both exacly the same. If I just kept the yz untill I had the money I dont think I would even be able to get $1200 for it. So I get the 250f and sell it this summer once I have the money and the bike should bring in decent money and I could get at least an '03 right? Does any of this make sense or am I just rambling on. Well I know I am rambling on
Really though does it make sense. Any help is appreciated.

If money is an issue I'd be keeping my 2 stroke unless I was very comfortable with who I was buying a 2-3 year old YZF from.

I agree. If I were you, Id keep what you have right now, and in the meantime keep saving up money. When you have a nice amount saved, enough for what you really want, then get it and sell your current bike. Thats what I would do anyway, I wouldnt rush into anything.

Thats what I want to do too but it seems that less and less people want to buy two strokes. I see people trying to sell thier bikes and are having a hard time. I can only think it will get worse. What do you guys think?

I think if the price is right, you can sell anything. If its a nice bike and your price is reasonable, I think it would sell. Just my opinion. Mike

The used 2 strokes are selling just fine. Don't let resale value be the determining factor. If you like your bike and can't afford a "better" one, then keep your yz. It is an awesome bike.
How much time have you spent on a 250f? You may find that you don't like them. I didn't, but it is just personal preference.

I have actually spent a little time on one and I thought it was great. That is just because of my riding style or lack of. Well I have found a huge problem in selling my bike. It is modded so much that it runs on race gas. As soon as I mention people who are interested in the bike they run away. I bought a stock head and all they would have to do is buy a yz piston and put it in and presto. Its a pump running gas bike. They just dont seem to think and just run. I explain it all to them and I usually dont get a reply.
If you watch **** I just saw a '01 yz and it sold for only 1600! That is ridiculous and it looked great.
