How much do you spend on riding gear?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Just curious how many "el****o" specials VS the i gotta have the new stuff before it even comes out people are out there.

Walt has a good point!

Lets make it how much is invested per outfit.
IE: value of the gear you wear when you ride, not total of all the gear you own. As most people have more than one pair of riding pants, jerseys, etc.

I dont have the lates greatest stuff, but my gearbag( with all contents) is well over $1000.. Stuff adds up quickly
RIck

OAS,
Maybe edit your first post to anually, or total for set-up.
My total cost is prbly 6 -7 hunrd spread over 3 years. Replace stuff as needed.

How on earth could you buy boots and a helmet for less than $100? But for under $300 I did get boots, helmet, and a year end special complete outfit. Oh, and I ride a KX500 that I bought for $1600.

So for under $2000 I'm in the woods with more HP than brains.

Yeah, I'm cheap and proud of it!

Yea, i suppose i coulve thought this through a bit more thouroly before putting up dollar amounts.
But some of the dealers DO offer pretty impressive package deals!

My list goes as follows:
Helmet= anniverswery present (well she did use OUR money, so mebbe not free?)
Jersey= have a couple range in price from $8 to $25 (dealer clearance specials.)
Pants= Fox Honda racing 360 (bought used on bay-e for $25)
Boots= Gaerne SXpro ()bought at a yard sale for $15)
Hydration pak= Target special (LOL) was $20.
Gloves= Answer team-2 $12

Total= $80 to $97 gawd im so cheap i make myself ill sometimes!! LOL
Doncha love it!

Good for you OAS! Now get down to Sandia and put it to use!

Posted by: OnAnySunday---------------------

what time y'all gonna be there?
so's i can make sure to be at least an hour late as usuall.......

and.....do they take plastic??? heh heh

Posted by: Smit-Dog---------------------

What I gear up in to ride cost about $1500. A broken collarbone cost me about the same out-of-pocket. Me thinks the gear will pay for itself overtime.

Posted by: YZ165---------------------

No plastic at Sandia. Starts at 10am.

99$ helmet shorts and a t-shirt and im out ridin. got to be comforable lol

Posted by: psycho---------------------

yeeooww... Just my noggin protection device was over $400. So I guess everything to gether I am pushing $1200. Gee thanks for bringing this up. Now I feel like a dip with so dang much invested for one change of "clothes". A fool and his money....... I guess we know where I rank hehe.

Posted by: Smit-Dog---------------------

I'd rather be the dip with all the protective gear than the dip with a permanent feeding tube.

Cheap insurance if you really look at the big picture...

Posted by: buffmaster---------------------

Ooooops... I just took it as the soft stuff (pants, jersey, etc...). If you factor in all the hard goods, I'm way over the $600 mark (Tech 8's, M2R Rev. X, etc...). My bad.

Posted by: gwcrim---------------------

Smit-dog, just out of curiosity, what all do you have for your $1500?

Posted by: Smit-Dog---------------------

HJC helmet: 130
Pro Grip goggles: 45
PCS neck brace: 43
Thor chest protector: 95
Fox elbow guards: 30
Camelbak Charge (102oz): 75
KEV-CO/Stubbs Kidney belt: 35
Jersey/pants/gloves: 225
EVS padded riding shorts: 43
Under Armour boxer briefs: 20
Under Armour skull cap: 15
Asterisk knee braces: 500
Asterisk Under Sleeves: 0
Thor MX socks: 13
Sidi boots: 300

Total -->> $ 1,569

In the trailer is also an extra Moose chest protector, 2 extra sets of jersey/pants/gloves, extra goggles, etc. I've never added it up, but there's also compete gear setups for my wife, son, and daughter. Protective gear, IMO, is money well spent.

Day-am! You are well accessorized!

$300 for boots, I can understand if I rode a lot more. I didn't add in the cost of my underwear. Nor did I add goggles, beanie, camelback, or socks. $225 for jersey/pants/gloves is kinda high when they're available on the clearance rack for $50. But that's cheap azz just me. I have two pair of pants only because they keep me from ruining my Levis.

Compared to most others, I don't ride that much either, maybe 1-2x a month, May-October only. But you can break your foot on a stump in the first 2 miles of a trail ride!

After getting monkey butt from sweaty cotton underware (please don't dwell on that image too long ), I switched to the Under Armour material. It's silky smooth, stays dry, and makes me feel sexy on the trail!

I used to ride with just work boots, Levi's, and cheapo gardening-type gloves.... but that was back in the '80s as teen.

Here's proof! Ecckkk!

East of Grayling??? Where was that taken Smit?

Posted by: Smit-Dog---------------------

The pics were taken somewhere north of North Downriver Road, around the Stephen's Bridge Road north/south corridor, up through the M-612 area. Basically the National Guard playground. Familar with the area?

Posted by: buffmaster---------------------

Smit, I'm somewhat familiar w/the M-612 area. The Frederick loop is actually one of my favorite trails.

Posted by: Smit-Dog---------------------

My step dad and I used to sneak into the bombing range north of 612 and watch the fighter jets bomb targets. It was pretty cool until we were heading out on a two track through a field, and there were smoking holes all around us....

Posted by: buffmaster---------------------

Ok, that woulda been freaky. All I've ever heard of from ppl sneaking in there is getting chased by the guardies.

Posted by: crf250r rider---------------------

ihave the 2005 answer syncron and 2005 shift so that is like 500 at least
