I'm very new to riding, and I was woundering if I'm making the right chioce? First off you know my experiance level, I'm 6'2, 220#, and old. I whant a KDX 200. am I makeing the right chioce?

what kind of riding are you going to do?

If its MX, then no your not.

If it's trails and play riding then your picking a good easy to ride and easy to start bike. Even though its a little dated. It's still a solid bike and the price is usually much lower than others. If your going to be doing a lot of steep hillclimbs, and race your buddies up them then there are better choices.

Yeah, kdx would be a good bike for you as you can grow into it and perhaps in a couple of years you get something else...or not. Anyways, regardless of what others say, a kdx can bite you when you least expect it so just go easy when you start and the speed will come. Good luck with it.

I plan on trails for the most part. Like I said I'm REALY new!! Thanks for the help. I just hope the KDX dosn't bite me to hard, and to offten! (thank god for aflack)

I got the chance to ride Kelvins KDX at dirtweek last year and loved the bike. It was so smooth in the woods that I felt comfortable right away. If you get one once you feel you are starting to outgrow it you can always send it off to Eric Gorr for his magic and you'll have an all new riding experience.
As long as you don't plan to exclusively ride MX it is a great bike

How about a wr 250, its electric start, decent power and looks cool, you should check that out to.Also compare all your 2stroke and 4stroke options. For a beginner I would suggest a 4stroke because of the linear power and no pre-mixed gas.

I looked really hard at WR250, I like the idea of an electric start, and not having to worry about mixing fuel. But My wife likes the price of the KDX, and I still have to do the fuel mixing for my son's yz80. Thats how the KDX came about. That an I rode my cousins KDX and really liked it. and like I said I'm really new , so I'll grow with the bike, and make mod's when I need MORE POWER .

Im also very new at ridding a off road only type bike. I have in the past owned an xt and rode my friends dirt bikes (honda xr's\xl's) growing up. my first off road bike about 4 months ago is a 03 kdx 200. no regrets its fun fairly light comfortable loads of info avalible and affordable. I changed the front sprocket, added a skid plate, and just changed the front springs for my weight 225. It is great for a little of everything from ridding with my 8 year old daughter on her eton 50 to ridding with my friends and i feel much more in controle of the thing than the more aggresive mx bikes. I think it will work good for you.
