I have a 10 yr old brother who is begging for a dirt bike Because i just bough one and he wants to ride with me. haha
He has very little riding time but he caught on quick and did well. I found a 1996 kx80 for 750 dollars recently in the classifieds. Is that gonna have to much kick for him or would that be a good starter bike. The only trouble he had on the 100 was it was a little heavy and he couldnt corner comfortably. I know the kx80 is a little lighter and going to control easier all around. We arent talking racing or anythign yet but just riding in an open field and simple riding trails.
In your opinion is it a good bike for him to learn on and is that a good price?

sry i left out a piece im scatter brained..
The bike i was refering to that he had ridden previously was a 2001 xr100. (If that changes even makes a difference)

The xr100 would certainly be a better learning bike, if he rides alot he will probably outgrow it in a hurry but resale on those is very strong. He can certainly learn on an 80 and will adjust to it over a period of time. As for the price every area is different for resale value but if the bike is in good condition that seems to be a decent deal.

I bought a 98 rm 80 for 900 bucks, so the price he's asking is pretty decent. You can go to www.kbb.com to check the bluebook on it. Since the kx and rm have a powervalve, there will be more power in the bottom as well as top, which is helpful for a beginner. My 80 was my first bike so he should be able to handle the power. Also, they don't weigh much so he should be able to corner it well and other things. If he does alot of trail riding, you might consider looking for a larger 4 stroke. Good luck looking for a bike

thanx i think im gonna go with the 80 since the bike is so cheap. And i think he should gro into it if not ill turn it into a pit bike
thanks again for the help
