Which modern 250 2-stroke to buy used?

I'm planning on selling my 1997 CR250 (wonderful engine and downright dangerous handling) and my 1998 YZ250 (excellent handling and an incredibly soft motor) for something fresher. I've been riding 2-strokes for 14 years (250's for 8), but don't keep up with the magazines. I'd rather the bike be used (in other words, not 2005), but I could afford new if there is something stellar out there thats worth the extra dinero.
So, from the late 90's to now, what 2-stroke 250's really stuck out as winners? Strong engined bikes are a definate plus, and I personally favor bikes that are pipey with a hard top end hit (works for desert riding). However, a bike with good all-around power is fine too (as long as the top end isn't 'soft'). Thanks everyone for the help.

have you thought about something in the KTM lineup they make a 300 two 2 stroke wich would work great in the terrain you would like to ride in .
