Hamilton Ont Trails

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

I talked to a few of my jeep buddies the other nite and they showed me some really cool trails to go on in the Grimsby area. They said some of the trails took them 8 hours to go through in their rigs and there are some holes you have to watch out for, they are all on unassumed roads so there is easy access, I saw a spot you might be able to leave veichles as long as there were not too many of them or you run out of space. If anyone is interested post a reply and maby we can get some people from the area to meet up for coffe or drinks and get a ride going.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

I know there are some guys from the hamilton/toronto/niagra area here so msg me back

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I'm in Hamilton. I'm 19, love riding but got no vehicle what a pisser My bike still needs a left exhaust valve to run, ordering it tonight from Jeff Fredette. How old are you oldschoool? Here's a pic of my bike at Kings Forest: http://home.cogeco.ca/~lleepp/P1020164.JPG

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

im 21 and have a chev p/u with 8 ft box so lots of room for bikes and gear just need someone to go riding with cuase going out by your self is not the best idea

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Cool where abouts do you live on the mountain? Near the center mall?

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

im downtown stoney creek . how about oyu?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I'm just off Kenilworth near the center mall. Have you ever gone riding down at the end of kenora St? I've seen a few people riding there before they started the red hill highway.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

nope and i have never been riding in the kings forest either didnt think you were allowed
not that it ever stopped anyone

I know they use to have signs saying no dirtbikes but latley they have all been taken down so I ride off the main trails sometimes.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

good place to ride?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Not that fun no jumps or anything But Its fun for me I just got my dirtbike a couple weeks ago so it's nice to ride somewhere

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

too bad i know there used to be a small bike track there a while ago maby it was just for bmx bikes though. When you get your bike fixed and want to go riding let me know cause im pretty well ready to go anytime as long as i am not working. I keep my bike at work but can get it 24 7 pretty well. The trails out in grimsby are really good jeep and truck trails but you could take bikes on them as long as you did not try to ride through some really deep mud

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Yea there used to be a sand track back in there but the construction guys got it.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

ya they really messed that place up
any of your friends have bikes/quads?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Nope Do you go out riding in a little snow?

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

im in the same situation all i get is empty propises like "ya ill get one soon"

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

you up for some winter riding at all?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Sure am Well goodnight im gonna hit the sack.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

ya sorry i didnt fully read your post there about going out in the snow but im in for it I have an old tire I am going to try to stud "try being the key word" but i guess it depends on what I am riding on. so how long untill your bike is ready?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I just got the price list back for how much my parts will cost just gotta wait for shiping price, then I mail to the usa and my parts are shipped back using ups. I think 10 days maybe.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

well seeing as though the hollidays are this mth and i am finishing off school sundays are all i can go out but as well as saturday afternoons if i dont work too late

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Don't matter to me any Sat or Sun when my bikes working except christmas holidays Well gonna go take a link outta my chain and put a 12 tooth sprocket on instead of the 14tooth should give alot more low end power

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

well pm me your email address or phone number or something and next time I am going out ill give you a call

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Here's my email addy. I can’t send pms only subscribers can issed:

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

thanks ill send you a msg next time im going out

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Well the guy from UPS came with my parts from Jeff Fredette, but the bast-ard ups guys are charging me a $70 import charge I didn't have the money on me so hes coming back tommorow. So any time after tommorow when your ready to hit the dirt/snow im there.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

I might be free this weekend. The B.S. import charge is why i dont use UPS it is their own charge that they dont tell you about when you order stuff from the states. It is not a government charge at all

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

It is some BS if I didn't have the cash id be F-ucked Do you know what mail services are avalible for getting a tire from the US that would'nt cost me a fortune?

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

couldnt you just get a tire from up here? The best bet is to ship with puralator . there is a new company with 3 letters too IDL or something but I have never used them

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Sure can! But might cost a little more and I dont know if anyone sells the Maxxis IT tire. It's only 40 us for the rear at Rocky M. I think i'll go check Sturgess Cycle when it gets above -7

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

That is pretty cheap, Is your current tire bald? And have you ever gone winter riding before. I was going to put on my insulated coveralls and some other stuff, and from what I have heard get a belaclava (one of those criminal ski masks) Also do you have hand guards even cheap ones that will keep the wind off your hands are ok If nopt wear some good gloves Bring extra socks wool/regular and stuff like that because as it looks I will be free this weekend Fri and Sat

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

My tires got tread but I dont know how much its warn never had a brand new tire to compare to. It's missing a middle nob. I don't have any hand guards Havn't been winter riding before, but I'll be going for a test run tommorow

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

ok thtas cool where would you go to testride

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Test ride: Kings Forest Here's a picture of my rear tire tread compared to a spark plug tip. http://home.cogeco.ca/~lleepp/P1020212.JPG

Kings forest probably be real fun with snow down wouldnt be anyone out there :D

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

ya not alot left there probably smart to get a new tire I just have cheapo's on mine right now but Ill probably get new ones If i race next year

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

You might want to check out dewilt honda as those guys there are really good and can usualy give you brakes on prices

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

ok thanks! I'm gonna take a bike ride down there now and take a look. Its just past centennial pky long ride from Kenniworth but owell

Edit maybe i'll wait till thursday 6 degree weather.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

buy a car then you can go out in any weather and pay out the a** for insurance, gas, reapirs ect. I'd pick you up but I ve got stuff around the house to do today

Posted by: highflyernick---------------------

Hey, I live in Tillsonburg, Onatario (near London) I mostly ride tracks tho as there is about 4 tracks within 30 mins where I live, my KX250 is kinda hard to trail ride for me.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

So oldschool do you have a name? My names Lee

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

Chris

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Wow I just got done putting my UFO rear fender on, it definatly isnt an exact fit. I had to drill 4 holes cut some siding off wow. Just need to put a bolt on to secure my pipe, exhaust then some rad covers and seat then my bikes ready.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

Sweet I will let you know about this weekend

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

Im heading up to the trails now and am going to check them out It has gotten a bit warmer so there will be a bit of mud so that should make things interesting

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

What trails you going to? I was out riding this morning everything was frozen and a tad slippery I found I got a very very small Coolant leak coming from my water pump just needs a tad of silicone/sealent put on the cover.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

I went out to, 2 in grimsby hysert road and allways road both in the same area 15 mins from my house. Hysert was full of deep ruts that were full of water/ice but allways road was in decent shape. I have to rejet my bike atleast 1 size bigger as I am getting pinging at higher rpm. no big deal just takes 30 seconds on mine. But jesus What a pain in the A&^ to get it going when I got there, The needle and seat stuck flooding the engine then the plastic gas line broke. so I switched the gas line to rubber and had to remove a piece of old hose that had fallen in so the needle could sit properly. But besides that the trip was ok I strongly suggust getting a belaclava and/or putting some tape on the front of your helmet so your lips dont freeze. I am up for this weekend thurs, fri and sat off Which days do you want to go on and it wil have to be early cause it gets dark at 5 And I dont have a working headlight

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

My bike was having a hard time starting today as well. The kick starter gear wouldn’t engage had to bump start it till she warmed up. If you want to go tomorrow I’m up for it suppose to be +1 so should be good Just name a time it has to be after 9 AM though as I’m going to have to go too Canadian tire and get a couple screws and some hi temp silicone.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

Ive got ot go and get my marks from school but after that im free so probably around 10 or 11 email me your number or post it here and ill call you tommorow chrismfarrell@hotmail.com

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Ok cool. My phone number Cya tommorow. Im heading to crappy tire now for the stuff I need. I'm probably gonna be going to Ultimate cycle tommorow maybe you can meet me there

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

cool ill give ya a call tommorow

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

You ready? It's sunny and getting warm. Let me know and I'll meet you at Ultimate cycle. I gonna see how much some tires and piston rings would cost me.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

i dont think I will be going out tommorow but probably saturday as long as it is not too crappy out

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

It looks like I won't be going riding for a while. My bottom end is filled with water.

Edit: I was able to get the water out by flipping my bike upside down. Some oil and she should start

Edit: My bike keep starting for a few secs, drying the plug would get it running again, After about 12 plug cleanings it's running great. I put in some fresh penzoil 10w 30. Had some water in the flywheel cover too issed:

Yo Nick,

Hope your still near. I just signed up here and am more track oriented then trail. I just sold my 2001 KTM380EXC to a good buddy in favor of a 2002 250YZ.
I hope the YZ is as good on the trail as the EXC was on the track
I've ridden the Dunes, The Pit, Walton and Stickards. Is there another jem out there that I could try? I'm in Cambridge.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

jeez lee you really had that thing swamped goodthing you didnt get it running when it was flooded or you could have screwed the bearings

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Yea good thing I just got back from riding at kings forest wow some of them trails are iced I keep spinning trying to go up 1 hill lol. hopefully some of it melts today so I can open her up tommorow I gotta find some small spikes just a little something to help.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

there are some good stud tips in some of the fourms here best bet is to check them out. Stud the rear then get a new one in the spring. I was talking to a couple of guys and they told me that they go out on 20 mile creek when it is frozen I guess it goes all the way to welland, apparently all the snowmobiles and bikes with studs make the trip quite frequantly when it is nice and frozen. I am going to check it out a bit more but ill let you know. Best bet is to see if we could get some more guys to go as well

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

That sounds like it would be fun I found some special tire screws for around $16 US for 250 of them. Here's the site
http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produ...leafCatId=10807

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Here's some pictures from todays ride at kings forest. Someone else musta been riding there the day before, As I saw some tracks but from a smaller bike maybe a 80.cc

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I saw some of the tracks near Rosedale arena . Well I hope your have a merry Christmas

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Well I got my new tire on. Snows melting I wonder how much snows left at kings forest.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

you going to stud your old tire?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I dont think so I showed the guy at sturgess cycle it and he said its way to warn too stud. He said they would just rip out. issed: I might stud this new 1 if it ever gets colled enough for ice riding

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Well alot of the snows melting. I think i'm gonna go riding at kings forest tommorow/saturday wanna come? Suppose to be +2 out

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

sorry man I dont have the bike with me this weekend as I wasnt planning on going riding. ill have next sunday off though other than that im working every day this week

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Well im back! It's probably a good thing you didnt come today. There was some deep snow on some hills tires keep spining uphills and my engine keep getting really really hot even with liquid cooling. But on the way back alot of it was turing into slush should be nice and clear by next weekend. Up hill in snow Pic

http://home.cogeco.ca/~lleepp/P1030009.JPG

I don't think I ever woulda made it up this with the old tire

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

sweet man too bad i couldnt go. your bike is probably overheating because of the jetting go up 1 size on your main and it should fix it

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Hey Chris! Are you going out riding this weekend? I was out yesterday and wow what a nice day went up to 17 degrees. I Had to take my winter coat and hide it in some bushes. Suppose to be about -6 and sunny. I think my bike might be getting a little hotter then normal because of the spark plug b8es. Kawasaki says my bikes recommended to use the 9 heat range My bike does'nt get hot to the point it won't start maybe its just me imagining it. I only have had a cr 80 to compare and it never got hot.
Well im going out soon so later

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

Hey Lee sorry i didnt reply to that last post ther i was buist last weekend. I am going out on saturday to some trails near where I work. there is no water this time

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

You going this saturday as in tommorow ? It's gonna be alittle cold. What area do you work in?

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

I work in the hagersville area. Ill only go if i have someone to go with me, If you or no one else can go then ill just save my money

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

What time we leaving?

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

it will be early in the morning i will pick you up at around 9- 9:30 I'll pick up my bike along the way. I am going to pick up a map of the snowmobile trails in the area today. but if they are not open for whatever reason then there are some train tracks that are all ripped up that go forever.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Sweet! Guess i'll do an oil change and fresh gas tonight.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Did anyone survive this ride? It's a bit cold for me,but once summer hits count me in.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

We both made it back although I got a little cut doing a jump. The snow was pretty deep on the way back I was going threw snow drifts up to my front fender lots of fun . Here's my cut . http://home.cogeco.ca/~lleepp/P1030023.JPG

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

ya it was sweet ill post some info and links to the pics in a bit

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Hey guys, newbie here in Mississauga/Oakville area. Count me in if you ever go out...I dont check in often so send a PM.
Cheers!

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Well all is fixed got the gasket paper 11 bones for 4 sheets. I got the screws out after some filling of the broken screws, wd40 and time. I put a new gasket on my water pump cover no leaks anymore. I also bought and put on some new rear brake pads. The front are pretty much done to but im poor. Anyways just waiting on my new gear shifter should be here by Monday. I going to order some new piston rings tonight. Hopefully these warmer temps were suppose to get melt some snow I want to ride I was ice fishing with some friends at the grand river and seen about 15 dirtbikers cruising down the river rivers about a foot thick.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

Hey i might be up for a ride on sunday around where I work if i feel better (just getting over a week long cold)

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Sweet! I just got back from a killer ride I cruised down the trail at the side of center mall train tracks down to parkdale then to burlington st, got a on a service road and boom 6 gear cruising. Then I was at the beach on that semi new asphalte trail that goes to burlington read the signs for a minute nothing saying anything about no motorized veihcles so I unwinder the throtle boom boom boom 6 gear let the gas up fast then back on it and power band kicks in, the engines just screaming I was flying. Then I road the beach/sand all the way to confederation park and over to Kenora St way back behind the factorys and got on the trails there I use to ride with my friend and his bike. The trail was sweet I mushed alot of the snow down, pretty fun I burned up a whole tank of fuel. I saw some track there in the mud too someones been riding there I'm gonna start going there every once and a while maybe I can meet a new dirbiking buddy Now If I can find money for gas Just spent $62 on piston rings and base gasket, $30 for gear shifter and $15 for a new starter cover. and $13 on gasket paper I don't even no how much it cost to fill up I think like 7-8 bux

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

NVM I got a way to get some cash. I found like 14 bux in beer bottles. Plus I got $10 Damn i'm poor I feel sad : If you feel better and we go I'll bring my digital camera

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

sorry lee but im FUBAR at the moment ive been up since 4:30 this morning, coughing all week has left my back muscles really tight and sore maby next saturday if it is decent out

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

It's ok I think im gonna go back to kenora on sunday. If you don't feel that bad sunday, are not working u can always meet me at the back of kenora we can take turns on my bike

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Hehe got some pix, was a nice ride today gets boring by myself lol.. I almost got busted for riding down the street lol came to a stop, a cop was right there good thing I was near red hill. It was pretty foggy today and that 8 degrees weather forecast was bs I was pretty cold at times lol. http://home.cogeco.ca/~lleepp/Kenora%20St%20Trails/

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Cool...we were out looking at a cottage today and saw a guy on a dirtbike hitting the road around Dunnville. Looked a little slushy and wet for me, but hopefully the groundhog that said winters coming to an end soon will be right getting antsy to ride, even though I still need to get some more gear and do some more maintenance to prep for the season.
John, next time get someone to take some action shots of you!

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

So what you think Chris going out riding this saturday?

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

as long as it is not raining Ill probably go

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Cool Sturgesscycle just got my pings rings in stock so I gotta go pick them up and put them in. Should get some more power seeing how max limits for piston ring gaps like .025 and mines .034 lol

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Damn guess I can't go riding. I was taking the rad drain screw out and damn aluminium threads came out with it . The piston rings are in though

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

damn so you are not going to be able to go on sat? can you helicoil it at all?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I don't even no what helicoiling is lol. The hole stills has some threads Maybe I can get the old bolt welded on by someone. I really wanna ride where can I get a helicoil from and how much is gonna cost me? issed:

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Nvm I got it pretty much fixed. I was able to get a little bigger bolt from my seat to go on tight. It's just slowing builds up some drips It's ridable I will just bring a water bottle. Wish I had a warm garage id apply super glue around the bolt. off it. You still going riding? My bike sure does run better with the new rings throttle response is super fast.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

Ya man im in for tommorow. We might have several jeeps going with us so ill give you a call tommorow when I hear from my friend. We are going to a place across from the ford plant in oakville.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Kool Always nice to try new spots Sure is feeling nice and toasty outside :D

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Hiya chris what time do you think you're leaving at? I might go get some gas.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

http://home.cogeco.ca/~kellyjo/Oakv...0Jeep%20Trails/

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

thanks lee

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Np! Were you able to get that beast running?

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Where's Kings Forest?
John you are covering an amazing amount of ground considering its the winter
I think I know the place in Oakville you were at last week....Behind the driving range, off Upper Middle/9th line? I live 10 mins from there....didnt cops hassle you? Oakville cops have too much time on their hands.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Kings forest I'm pretty sure theres no dirtbiking allowed there, building a huge highway there. In oakville we never saw a cop although I was crusing on the gravel at the side of the road. The place we were at had the golf course then on the other side of the hill theres a walking trail thats closed. and the place has a no dumping sign on the entrance sry dont no streets lol i'll tell you this gas isnt the cheapest there lol. Do you ever ride there Milhaus? It would probably be alot of fun if the snow was gone and the ground fairly dry. Oh have you seen this thread Milhaus http://dirtrider.net/forums3/showthread.php?t=111135 Were trying to get a group of riders to go riding and camp at bobcaygeon/minden for may 24 week.

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

I actually havent tried there...it seems a little too 'public' if you get my drift, and cops often have speed traps near there so I think the chances of getting a trespassing ticket might be pretty good.I've occasioanlly seen some guys with bikes there, but its a short season due to the driving range/mini-golf around there....someone would call the cops I'm sure...golfers have no patience for noisy distractions
I'll look into the minden/bocaygeon trip, sounds good so far.

I've got another idea too, once summer rolls around...wifey and me are pretty close to buying an old cottage just outside Dunnville, right on lake erie so its prob real close to Turkey Point. Anyways, thinking it'd be a great place to pitch some tents (big lot, lots of parking), have a bbq/fire pit, etc, and do a weekend run at turkey point. Make a party out of it.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

ya Lee i got the bike going. I filed down the points a bit then messed around with some other stuff. and she fired right up. i dont know what the prob was but ill bring an extra coil when I go riding next. Milhaus good to hear from you The cottage/turkey point thing sounds pretty sweet. There was no, no tresspassing sign on the property and I know that tons of jeep guys go there on a regular basis it could be crown land for all i know, if it is crown land ill live in a tent on the top of the hill during the warm months and no one can throw me out lol

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Quote:

You mean Kings Forest or the place in Oakville? I've never seen jeeps at the one in Oakville.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

oakville

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Damn I was out riding at the back of kenora St today lots of fun no snow on the trails. My bikes gonna cost me more money again. Hope I'm gonna be able to get more money to go on may 24 trip. When I was riding today my damn front brakes stopped working lol pads are down to metal, my sprocket wow it's teeth are on a really good angle the wrong way. . and my chain wiggles like its about to fall apart. So now I gotta spend spend spend. Here's a picture of my scrap parts. http://home.cogeco.ca/~kellyjo/Junk...rake%20pads.JPG

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

damn, man that sucks prob around 150 for parts eh? good news is that it snowed today go and shovel some driveways

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

LoL shoveling it is. Yea I guess its best to replace the chain would'nt wanna be stuck up north with a broken one. Although I can still ride with it, I was going to just reverse my sprocket and get the teeth going back straight Edit: Well just ordered a 49 Tooth rear sprocket 13 tooth front sprocket and brake pads for a grand total of 110. now all I need is a chain seen 1 on e+bay for 16 bucks.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

oh god i cant see anything good coming from dooing the sprocket reversal thing

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Damn snow....

Oh well, gave me a chance to re-cover the seat on the KX125 and put on the new fender and side panels. Wifey will be so proud of her "re-freshed" limegreen machine
If only I could figure out how to stop the carb from pissing gas out the bottom.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Is the gas coming from an over flow hole/tube? If so your float bowl may need to be adjusted or the float might have gotten stuck. I found this manual page on carb adjustment for kdx http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/at...tachmentid=7033

Snow sure does suck but my bike parts aren’t here yet so I don’t mind

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Yup, its dripping (actually running at times for a very brief period) out of the tube. I'll take a look at the link, thanks!

Off-topic, but any of you guys ever banged out dents in a pipe? I read up on it, looked like it could go either way...a piece of cake, or a real bitch. I have some nasty ones I wanted to straighten out and wanted some real world experience.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Hiya Milhaus were you able to fix your leak? i'ts going to hit an amazing +1 tommorow with mainly sun guess it's time for some snow riding Im sure an auto-body shop could get the dents out for a few bucks.

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Hi John, I heard the weather sounds promising....about time

I havent gotten into the carb yet, but its on the list. Just been kind of cold to work in the garage lately. I started taking off the rear wheel last night (tires are practically bald) , and the axel seems to be stuck, cant seem to bang it all the way out, even though i took off the caliper....PITA, did everything according to the manual even. Hopefully the front one will be easier.
So here's my to do list on the KX:
front tire, rear tire, pipe dent repair, carb leak, maybe front brakes...lever goes all the way in despite topping up with fluid.

Last week i re-covered the seat-not a bad job actually, and put on some new plastics.

Its not all bad, my CR is basically ready to ride at any time....just a bugger to start, and a bit of a shaky idle, is all.

Actually I'd like to set the sag on both bikes too.

If it warms up soon, we should all get together some weekend and setup a season-opening wrench day at someones place. Probably get a lot more done faster if we all pitched in and shared the knowledge.

Off-topic, but any of you guys ever banged out dents in a pipe? I read up on it, looked like it could go either way...a piece of cake, or a real bitch. I have some nasty ones I wanted to straighten out and wanted some real world experience.

You're in Hamilton? Just take it to Titan Racing and have the dents blown out for fourty bucks or so.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I think hes in missisauga. Oh boy the weather station changed +2 and sun snow should start melting tommorow under the hot sun I think Im gonna take my pipe to titan if I ever get some spare money. issed: A wrench day would be cool. Any of you guys have a welder?

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

hey guys i know i havent posted in a while. been buisy and at the moment im so broke i cant afford to pay attention. I have access to a welder lee, the guys at titan are great they helped me out wiht my bike alot. if by blowing out dents you mean capping off thge pipe and filling it with compressed air i could probably do that as well. the wrench day sounds like a good idea as we could also discuss plans for the may 24 ride. ive been lazy and havent done my homework on the issue but ill get on it now

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Cool think you could weld the couple coners of my kicker so that I can grind it down to a saquare edge? Have you seen the weather in Windsor? +6 Saturday and +8 monday. Wow Wish I could get there

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Yup, I'm on the Oakville/Miss. border, but I dont mind driving to Ham. to get the pipe done, Titan sounds like a good deal.
Oldschool, how would you cap the ends of the pipe? That sounds like the only tricky part of the whole job.

Well when the time comes for a wrench day, let me know....I've got a double garage thats mostly empty, a nice big driveway, plus compressor and airtools. There's also a Partsource and Can. Tire around the corner. Only thing is, might be a bit far for you Ham. guys.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

thanks for the offer Milhaus i dont have any problem about getting to oakville neither should lee since i haul his bike . capping the ends should be no problem just some hose clamps and some thick rubber matting then just screw an air fitting into the end of one ill see about my long weekend off from work fri, sat, sun when i have a shift change

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Cool. Pizza's on me

not sure rubber matting will work. From what I understand, you have to heat the dented area with a blow torch to soften the metal. Could melt the rubber.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

ive got access to all that stuff the rubber mat was just a suggestion. i can seal it up

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Hey Guys,
I'm not sure if I'm invited but a wrench day sounds good.
John Cena I have a mig welder here, what material is your kicker made from ?
I'm in Etobicoke if you want to get it welded. If your kicker is made of aluminum I can't help you out though,I'm not set up for aluminum welding yet.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Hi! My kickers made from steel. What week are you guys maybe thinking? It would be nice if there were no snow? go for a nice ride after tune ups. Just made some money so i'm getting some boysen power reeds, I just bought a DID gold X-ring chain bikes gonna run real good soon

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Open invitation, Speedfreak....Anyone local who wants to come, by all means bring your bike and your parts and lets do it!
How about we shoot for early April i.e. first or 2nd weekend? I'm losing my optimism that march is gonna bring nice weather. Gives everyone time to order their parts too, with plenty of time before the May 24 ride to re-tweak.
That place in Oakville that I think John was at last month is at most a 10 min drive from my house, so if you guys think its legal or wanna risk it, it can be the "proving grounds".

April sounds good to me. I'm still waiting for my chain to come, couple sprockets and front brake pads and soon some boyesen power reeds. But atleast I got my KDXs head light working. Now I just need a switch so I can turn it on and off

I'm pretty sure that big hill near your place is legal to ride at. Atleast theres no signs saying not to just a no dumping sign. Do you have some other places to ride near by?

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

the second weekend of april sounds good to me. nothing major to do to mine just replace all the nuts and bolts that were shaken out of it riding last year. and then I just have to replace the regulator/diode assy and buy a new headlight as it was a casulty on a ride this winter. If you want I can bring some tools from my box at work i might have some things you guys dont

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

When I was looking for a kill switch on **** I'm pretty sure I saw some headlight switches as well, might want to check it out.
I dont know any other places around here....there might be some near the lake, or further up around ninth line, north of dundas. Its tough because we're still within city limits.

Bring any tools you want, Oldschool....I've got a pretty good collection, but there's always something you wish you had. Esp if you have something that can help cap off the exhaust pipe for dent repair. Any of you guys changed tires before? Is it worth doing yourself, or better left for a shop?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Yea Milhaus I just saw a whole wiring kit for my bike voltage regulator, kill switch, light switch etc on e,bay but im broke just spent $211 in the last 2 weeks on parts Well im going to go take my carb off and see what jets im using now. Cause the boyesen power reeds will require me to go leaner, plus im already running kinda rich and its cold out

Edit: Well I've got my jets out and needle. My pilot jet is stock 48 and my mains a 158 stocks 158 my jet needles stock R1172N.

Think im going to order a 45,42 pilot, 155,152 main and R1173N needle should give me alot more power cause my bike was smoking going up hills and when i put my hand behind the silencer and give it throttle I get a nice oil spot on my hand. Damn more money!

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

tires are not bad if you have the proper[I][U] tire bars, as for the dent repair i would have to see the pipe in order to determine what i could use

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Wow can't beleive this. After checking buykawasaki parts diagrams from 89-94 I found that only the 89 has a #6 slide and the jets that are in my bike now. My bikes an 89 in a 92 frame I Can't think to imagine how smokey this thing would be in the summer with these stock jets seeing how there jetted real rich from factory. Nowonder the previous idiot owner was running 75-1 gas.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

lol hey lee at least you know to check for matching numbers when you buy your next bike now.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Well the good news is that atleast the 89-94 have the exact same engine

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

first or second weekend in April sounds good, not really sure if i really need to do much to my bike except general check over and regular filter stuff, but I should have a good look over it before then. It will be real good to get out for a ride again

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I probably won't need to do much work on my bike by then either be all done here. Might have to change jetting and counter shaft sprocket, thats about all. Anyone looking for a spare dirtbike? I seen a 1986 Yamaha YZ 250 liquid cooled for $900 or he might negotiate a little lower..

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Anyone going riding this saturday? Suppose to be nice and sunny and above 0 lol Well im heading out for some kings forest riding suns just to warm to resist. I'm Back and wow what a crazy ride bike was just screaming in 6th gear after I raised the needle clip up 1 spot. The bike just wanted to go faster and faster lol. Shoulda seen the smoke when I locked the back brake up on pavement at hi speeds

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Hi guys! My gold DID ERV2 X-ring chain came in the mail today. I was wondering if anyone had a chain master link riviting tool?

Thanks!

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

ive got a breaker if you need it ill pick it up from work tommorow and drop it off to you on thursday during the day

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I don't need a chain breaker now coulda used it yesterday to cut a few links though. I don't need the riveter now also the guys at sturgescycle are gonna do it for 15 doolas + 8 for the link.
Thanks though!

Well now all im waiting for is my Boyesen power reeds to come in the mail.

Well Springs almost here and the temps are looking real nice

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

John, I must say, if there were an award for most creative use of Smilies, you'd have it in the bag!

Temps are getting better, things are looking promising for april (hopefully the snow will be all gone by then). I gave notice for quitting my PT job that was absorbing all my weekends, so I'll be ready to wrench or ride come April weather permitting.

Thats great! I might go out today. I got my chain done, the guy gave me a deal only paid 10 and no tax to have it rivited Got a 1 size lower pilot jet to gonna see how that works

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Well got the new pilot in and wow definatly a bottom end inprovment. I snap the throttle and it feels like the bikes going to take off from under me Here's some pics from todays ride. I was riding near confederation part beside lake Ontario. The pic of the road I was maxing my bike out on I was flying lol. I also got into a chase by some guy in a beat up bronco i'll get into that later my bloods still pumping. I'm prett sure all of the snow will be gone down here by the end of this week. Theres not much left now. and it's suppose to be plus 4 and sunny on sunday so that should really reduce the snow.

hey lee if i get my tax return today then i will probably be up for a ride tommorow. You interested?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Oh yea I’m ready! I just got finished helping my bro move into his new apartment so I made some cash

I take it your tax refund didn’t come? I'm going to be heading to crappy tire at 12 and then to either king’s forest or down to peer 4 there’s a nice gravel trail along the side of the train tracks down there that goes to cootes paradise.

How much money you need for gas?

Guess your not going to leave the justkdx forum and come here lol. Well im going to cootes Paradise

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

ya sorry about that lee but mohawck screwed up me on some things that i need to get straightened out they never sent me a form so i could write off my 2 months of school so untill i get that form i owe the gov like 500.00

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Damn that sux! Do you think your still going to be able to go for the tuneup/ride in april? Hey are you guys outside today wow is it nice going to be +5 and SUNNY here

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

ya i am on for the april thing

It's getting close, one week until April
Which weekend, first or second weekend? I'd prefer second weekend since I just put in a 4 page Yamaha parts order(over 40 part numbers) I'm going to be busy once these parts come in

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

40 parts wowza! What are the parts for? It don't matter to me which week as long as its ok for Chris Id prefer the ground too be dry though issed:

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

second weekend for me is the best on a saturday. I have to work the eunday but i will see if i can get some time off

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Sat. April 9 ok for everybody?

I've got some parts I'm waiting for too. Finally had a productive night with the KX.....Got both wheels off (damn axles were seized on pretty good), and the exhaust pipe off for dent repair. Cool bonus, it turns out its a Pro Circuit pipe (more interesting, from a '99 KX), so definitely worth fixing the dents on.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

the 9th is perfect for me you guys want to meet for breakfast first or have a BBQ as well?

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Sat. April 9th sounds good to me too. Would you guys mind if I bring along a friend and his bike too ?
John Cena ,the parts are misc. bolts, nuts, gaskets, bearings that I need to finish off a bike I put together from spare parts and some of the parts are for my other bike. What ever happens I shouldn't have a problem getting one of the bikes ready for the 9th.I just need to worry wether or not my bike transport vehicle holds together, lol(kinda the reason I want friend with van to come, )

Doesnt bother me, bring who ya want.
I guess breakfast/bbq depends on when we start/finish.
Any suggestions on how early you guys want to get into it?

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

Maby start at 10 or 11 in the mornign. up to you really milhaus

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

That's about the time frame I was looking at,but I'm okay with just about any time really

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Sweet only 15 more days How long are you guys gonna need to work on your rides? I think im gonna go for a nice cruize at the lake on sunday wanna burn up the rest of this old gas issed: Well I was out riding today on some snow hills behind the center mall. There was a guy with his 2 sons about 7yrs old riding 4 wheelers. pretty fun. almost got my bike outta gas.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Hopefully mine will be ready to ride by then.I need to break it in so I might take it up to my work and break it in in the parking lot on the nice smooth pavement.

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Guys, is Titan Racing still around? Their website is useless, I tried calling the number on there and its always busy (?).

I found a place in Oakville that blows out exhaust pipe dents, called Tripps Cycle. They say it takes somewhere around an hour to do, give or take, so around $50.
You guys have tones of oil in your exhaust? It literally poured out when I took the pipe off. Previous owner said he was mixing at 32:1.
FYI, if any of you are looking for a stand/work jack for your bikes, Cdn Tire has them this week for $159.99-60= $99.99. Great deal esp if you have Cdn Tire money to use. Bought one yesterday, works great. Prob didnt cost much more than a plain old stand (but a lot more than a milk crate ). My bikes seem too high for a milk crate though.

10-11 is fine for me, as for how long we should spend working on them, lets all put a list of the stuff we want to do to the bikes and try and estimate how much time we'll need.
I want to set up sag on 2 bikes, maybe install exhaust pipe (maybe blow out dents), re-install 2 wheels, 2 carb adjustments, maybe plugs. My guess is about 2-3hrs. with some help, esp. if you guys have set up sag before and are good with carb tuning.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

My bikes not going to need anything done to it. I've already got everything fixed just could'nt wait to ride . My bike silencer use to be caked in oil/spooge, but since I went with a hotter plug and leaner pilot jet its getting better. What pilot jet are you running in your KX? I got a spare 48 dont no if what u have is richer/higher number. What kinda silencer is on your bike?
im going out today to cootes paradise i'll get some pics.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

Titan is still around the phone is buist because they are allways insanely busy and yes the website is useless. I allready own the canadian tire motorcycle jack and it has been great never had a problem with it in the 3 years ive had mine. Ive only got some really minor stuff to do to my bike just some electrical stuff and maby some sealing up of the engine, then I am going to make some gaskets

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

John, once I take the carb off i'll find out more about my jetting/pilot needle etc. the silencer looks like its off a stock '99 KX, but its hard to tell...between that and the ' 99 KX pro circuit pipe, someone before me was "creative with their mods
Its actually not "caked with spooge, I mean oil literally oured right out. Imagine pouring a half pint of used oil into your pipe, then tipping it over, thats what I got

You guys done your sag settings?

Oldschool, you're right about Titan, I accidentally drove right past them today on Hwy 3, as we were going over to see that piece of land we bought outside Dunnville. Nice and close by, should be throwing them some business this yr, since Burlington cycle scammed my fiance last yr.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Well Didn't make it to cootes, trails to muddy. But I was riding behind the centre mall, with some kids on them little mini mini sport bikes lol. I was there riding for 4 hours seen 1 cop never did anything .

I think im going to add more sag to my bike tommorow

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

sag, what is sag? I have 2 coilovers on my rear suspension

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I found a huge article on how to set it up http://www.moto-pro.com/shoptips_sept04.shtml

I'm going to need a stiffer spring so I can make my sag correct for my fat arse

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Yeah its supposed to make all the difference in the world for how our bikes run. I think most of us get enough power out of our bikes for our needs. Its the suspension setup we're probably lacking, but admittedly, suspension tuning isnt as sexy as performance mods.
Like you, John, I need a stiffer spring as well. Most bikes are set up for the ideal 5'10" 165lb rider.....Not 6ft 210lb riders like me been to race-tech's website? They seem to be the authority on this and have spring "calculator's" on their site.

John, where did you buy your carb parts/jets?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Hi Milhaus! I bought my jets from my local dealer sturgess cycle cost $8 for any pilot or main. well I gotta go out ridding today 12 and sunny cant beat it.

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Cool, good to know. I wonder if we have the same carb. Are you using a Keihin PWK carb? i am, and trying to figure out what size it is, as there's about 6 different ones according to pro-flo.com.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Im also using the PWK carb, 35mm bore. I think the jets are the same for all pwk size carbs. There should be a number on the carb near the float bowl cover on the right side when on the bike my carb number is V564FH08

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

Here is the spot I was thinking of staying at for camping for the may 24 weekend, We can work out the details when we meet in 2 weeks, I stayed here last year and thie place is cool and no one hassled us

Nogies Creek Resort
1841 Bass Lake Rd., Bobcaygeon R.R#3
705-738-3566 / Fax 705-738-3566
- Phil & Lillian Kevill

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Nogies looks like a really nice place. How far away is the riding area? Can 1 drive down the roads on there bike to the trails?

How you guys feeling for the april 9th ride at that huge hill?
I don't no about mississauga but here we got a good amount of rain and more instore. Hope the hill isnt to muddy.

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

yeah its probably pretty muddy. But i dont put too much stock in weather reports over a week in the future. Lets re-visit this towards the end of next week, and see what things are like. It actually hasnt rained or snowed much here in the past week.
John you know how to "decode" the carb id numbers? Mine are different than yours. Off the bike and gonna tear it down tomorrow. I dont have a clue what could be in it now. Finding all kinds of goodies on the bike as I tear it down i.e .carbon fiber reeds, pro-circuit exhaust, Did chain and front wheel, Excel rear wheel etc. Oh yeah and a re-welded sub frame LOL. This thing could end up being able to keep up with my mostly stock 250!

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I have no idea what ther numbers mean. I don't no about where you guys are but were suppose to get 30 cm of snow by sunday.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

I think i will load up my bike tommorow after work as it is supposed to be nice on sunday so if anyone is up for a screwing around ride let me know

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

lol where you going? suppose to be 15 cm of snow in hagersville by sunday. Windsors the only place I see that it will be nice out on sunday

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

didnt get much snow here, all gone by noon...but rain isnt going away. If it were dry this weekend as it was during the week, I'd join you on the ride. But a bit too mucky for me.
Update on the KX bike, got the pipe dents blown out by John at Tripps Cycle in Oakville, $50. cash, next day turn around, so Tripps gets a big Gonna paint it and put er together with a new piece of rad hose as flex coupling.
Carb is off, and trying to learn how to fix that leaking problem.
New killswitch is on its way, as well as a spare piston kit that was cheap on ****.
Wheels are back on, fresh brake fluid in, gonna lube the chain, check the fluids and hopefully have er ready to go.No activity with the CR, other than some Boyesen reeds on the way.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

I will see how things are in the morning then ill call you ok lee. The weatherman lied and said it would be 10 and sunny on sunday

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I don't think i'll be going riding. It's gotta be super muddy out, I dont wanna go swimming again

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

well i was thinking of following the old train tracks out fo hagersville again except going the opposite way this time

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

Seeing as though we are meeting this saturday we should start to plan that now Like what time to meet where. Milhaus We are going to need your address

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Yup. If everyone who is coming could PM or email me at Lars_10@nothotmail.com (remove the not-its there for spambots), I'll reply back with the address/directions, rather than broadcast it around the net

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Hello! Hi Speekfreek I was wondering if you are able to bring your welder with you? My bikes gear shifter shaft must be more stripped then I thought cause my shifter lever keeps coming loose. So I was thinking of just welding it on.

Later all can't wait 3 days

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

hey lee if you want to go for a ride today give me a call 905 664-6835 if no answer call back in 5 min ok

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

yeah, if you can bring the welder that'd be great. Took apart the silencer today to see if it needs re-packing, and found that the inner pipe is broken. Would luv to get that welded together and then re-pack it.

Guys, if 9th line doesnt work out due to bitchy golfers, I may have a back-up location. Apparently theres a quarry in Burlington around Brant St and North Service that is popular with bikes. Its mostly private property, but noone seems to care according to a guy I work with who's family used to own the land there.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Milhaus,if you could bring your silencer to me it would be better since I'd like to use my finer wire with my gas to weld it for you and I won't be bringing my tank on saturday.
John I'll have to see if we have room for the welder in my friends van,it is usually a very tigh fit to get the two bikes .It's one of those camper vans with the captains chairs and couch type seat in the back.We have to unbolt one of the captains chairs just to fit the two bikes, but if there is room I'll bring it.
Your shifter is steel right ? if it's one of those aluminium ones I can't weld it with my set-up.
I'm ready to ride.I took the bike out tonight up and down the street about ten times, all my neighbours were coming outside and giving me dirty looks, What type of terrain can we look forward to at this place we are going to ? I'll be breaking in my motor so I hope it's well suited to that.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Cool! How long you going to break your bike in speedfreek? The terrain is pretty ruff if wet there’s a nice gravel trail beside the road down there, I was flying down the road last time never had the cops called. I got some pics from when me and Chris/oldscooldeath went.

http://home.cogeco.ca/~kellyjo/Oakv...ls/P1030117.JPG

Sorry I didn’t call you chris! I was in the yard fixing up my bike shoulda phoned me.

I still waiting on my power reeds I really wanna try them.

You guys see the price of gas today? sh-it I put 10 liters in my bike at 1.01 a litre wow I remember 4 years ago riding my friends cr 80 it was around 52c a litre.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

That place looks like it is going to be really muddy now that the weather is warming up.
Should only take a few 15minute rides to get stuff worn in and sorted out on my bike

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Yea i'm alittle worried about how muddy it is going to be too. Its suppose to rain a little tommorow. I think we need some back up spots. any ideas? Is there anyone that can check out the hill on friday?

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Depends on how far everyone wants to go.The only place I know of that's no hassle riding is near hwy 400 & Innisville beach side road. There is a lot of sand there which drys out a lot faster then mud.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

ill go to wherever there is a good spot to ride. my bike was busting may balls today when i had it out but nothing I cant fix. I just ordered parts today from titan and should be getting then next week sometine

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Whats wrong with the bike Oldschool?

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

won't it be muddy everywhere it rains?

A little mud doesnt bother me. But I should be able to check out the hill Fri night. Cant be much muddier than when you Hamilton'ers were out in the snow

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Here's deathwishes problem.
http://dirtrider.net/forums3/showth...5161#post905161

I dont think it will be to muddy. hasn't snowed for a while plus its been warm, were only suppose to get like 3 mm of rain. I don't care if it's a little muddy I was just worried about speedfreek break in.

Damn death that me you can't go riding this saturday?

Check out this site I found list cheapest gas prices in hamilton. http://hamiltongasprices.com/

at king and ashley gas is 81 cents for 87 or 89 dont no which octane.

Well we hav'nt gotten any rain down here really. Hopefully its the same down there, that would make some nice riding.
My boyesen power reeds finally came today time to put these puppys in and try to flip myself

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Wow those boyesen power reeds really added some low end torque. Throttle response has no hesitation now. But I lost my about 3/4 to wot power. The instructions say normally you need to go down 1-3 sizes on the main jet and my bike was kind of smoky at around 3/4. So I guess I’ll have to change my 158 for a 155 main. Do you guys have boyesen reeds? If not id get some they really add some power. I only paid $15 for mine on eway can't beat that for extra power.

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

I had them on my RZ350 street bike. I have carbon fiber reeds on the KX, not sure what reeds are on the CR, but I also ordered some boyesen reeds for it on ****, but they havent arrived yet. I likethe low end snap they provide, and can life with losing some of the top end, as I dont know that I often get the revs that high. Its all about the holeshot, baby
