I want to know everything i can know about an xr400 and how it might compare to a rm125.
I have the 125 and i want a big 4 stroke but still want to be able to jump and ride motocross. I dont race so i dont need to be competitive but i ride at a motocross track ocasionally so i dont want to bottom out and break alot of stuff.
How reliable is the 400 and is it a "tireing bike" or does it ride good and smooth?

if you want to do motocross try a YZ400F, and XR is more of a woods bike and the YZ might be a little more of a handful than the RM but i think you will have more fun on the YZ but that is just my 2 cents

I think any bike is going to be tiring for you after comming off that 125 just for weight purposes.Personally I think for the money you would put in to a 4stroke, you could do some good motor mods to your 125 such as port and polish and bore it out to what ever you can.I tink you would have alot more fun on the bike you got just with alot more power rather than to try to wrestle a heavy 4stroke around. The thing is is that you know your bike and what it can and can't do.I think you should just stick with it and do the mods and you will be a happy camper.

I ride trails and I've ridden the 400 and would not trade my RM for the XR. (and I don't even like my RM that much) Just not the bike for me. Too much weight to stop, no real feel for the terrain.

The real answer would be to ride and compare. They are very different machines. Maybe you'd like the XR.

If I had to trade my bike for the XR400 or the RM125 I would go with the 125. Just because I'd have more fun/less hassle. Less Tiring.

The MX 250 4-strokes might be an interesting alternative but I've never ridden one.

Maybe someone with an XR could tell you more.

Thanks alot that helps alittle. Now that iv researched the 400s im shying away from the xr. I was also thinkin of the yz400 or the yz250f. The 4 stroke 250s are lookin really nice but i dont want to sacrafice power. What is your opinion of maybe the yz250f. Is it gonna be a power loss if i switch to that comming from a 125 2 stroke. Also if i dont get another bike what kind of performance mods are best for the price. Im looking at a pipe and silencer but thats all i really know about. What are my other options?

I had an XR400 for 6 months and it isn't good for MX, even just to play ride. It is too heavy, the suspension is way too soft, and the frame is not designed for lots of jumping. You will certainly break off the right footpeg eventually and I have no doubt that any amount of casing jumps or flat landings will destroy it in short order.

If you want XR400 4 stroke kind of power in something you can MX, then a 250F motocrosser is probably the way to go. I am pretty sure a 250f will be more power than your RM and better power to boot.

Thats what im lookin at now. I got the 400s outta my mind. Im thinkin of selling or trading my bike for a 250 4 stroke. There is a buy sell and trade show in my county at thunder valley. How much do you think my bike is worth on average. It is a 92 rm125, Never been raced, top end replaced 6 monthes ago, oil changed regualarly and nothing has been broken on it. All origninall parts, Its in such good shape the pipes doesnt have 1 single ding on it anywhere. Id estimate less than 100 hours on it in since it was brand new.

For the RM i would guess that you could problably get about 1300 for it. and then you would have to spend another 1300-1500 to get The YZ250F or what ever you are getting.

Awesome .. im probably going towards the yz250f. Thanks for all your help.
