How do I know which chain to buy

I am looking at replacing my stock chain on a 2001 KDX 220. I am going to buy a 520 H chain out of rocky mountain, but I don't whick lenght to buy. The description reads 520/106, 520/108 etc. what does that second number mean. I counted the links on my chain and came up with 53. Do I double that number and go with a 106 or what.thanks

The second number is the number of links in the chain.
You didn't count right. Count every link, not just the outer ones.
Or, buy a chain that's 520/120 and cut it to length.

You counted wrong way. 53x2 =106 so 108 chain should do. sure it wasnt 54x2=108?

If you have the stock gearing on the bike (13-47) you will need a 108 link #520 chain.
You best advise was given by YZ165.
