What would you pay for a brand new sx250 without engine, carb, pipes, and all thats needed to get the engine to run in another toy.

How many % off the new price do you think its worth? Pleace answer in percent since i dont know the price of a new in your area/country.

BBR sold a brand-new 2001 YZ250F rolling chassis for $2200. This was three years ago, also.

I wouldn't go more than a couple of grand. Maybe $2500.

If I remember right, an '01 YZ250F was about $5500 so $2200 is about 40%. You definitely wouldn't want to go over 50%.

He wants 38%. What engine would you put in it? Im thinking a xr250 would be fun and cheap to ride.

Posted by: JuliusPleaser---------------------

XR250 with a cam & big bore would make an awesome playbike engine. The YZ250F chassis that BBR sold went to a local bike shop owner. He installed a cammed & bored XR200 engine in it, and made a killer woods bike out of it.

I'm jealous. I've always wanted to build a hybrid playbike.

If the bike has been ridden, you can take a couple grand off right there. So, lets start with 7K. Kill 2K because it's used(weather it is or not). Now we're at 5K, kill another 3K because that's what it'd cost you to get a motor from KTM, then kill another grand just for misc. crap that you don't know about yet. So, give the guy no more than 15% of the new price and you should be in the safe zone.

Thats not even the cost of the wheels and they are quite easy to sell as many have spare wheels.

As i understand the bike have never been ridden.

Somebody other than you has taken it apart, it doesn't matter if it has been ridden or not, it's used. Thus the value is diminished.

If you plan on parting out the bike, then the less you get the bike for the better right? So what are you saying? Buy high, sell higher? And I don't know where you get your wheels, but a certian auction site I know of has 'em for a lot less than a grand. Especially stock crap.

Don't get me wrong, if you wanna be upside down in a bike, buy all means, give him 75% of the original value and have a grand old time getting a motor put in it. Enjoy your overpriced bike. Enjoy building that overpriced bike. And have an even better time trying to sell your overpriced bike.

P.S. I haven't smoked in almost a month, so sorry in advance if that was harsh.

Posted by: pyromaniac---------------------

What im saying is that he is not going to sell it for the same price as he can sell the wheels. Ofcourse i want to pay as little as possible, i didnt think i had to say that but obvious you have been smoking ****.

I would probably look up the retail price on what's left of the chasis and slash that in half. Why would you want to do this to yourself? Unless you have a motor laying around tailor made for that frame, why go through all the headache. I've heard of guys putting together bikes but ONLY if they got either the engine or chasis for little or no cost. Unless you want to do it for the shear enjoyment of wrenching? Smokin'...pass it Sparky!
