A visiting minister waxed eloquent during the offertory prayer. "Dear Lord," he began with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. "Without you we are but dust."
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter (who was listening carefully {for a change!} leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little girl voice,
"Mom, what is butt dust?"

during services, our church has a children's moment when all the little kids gather and listen to a short sermon from the youth minister. once, she told a little story about children being afraid of the dark. she closed it by saying that "jesus shines his light in all corners of the world." as the kids returned to their seats, we could hear one say, "i thought the world was round?"
