Two days ago I changed my oil and oil filter on my brand spankin new 04 yz250f, less then 15 hours on it. anwyays, was heading too the motocross track, rode for about 4 hours, filled up on gas and on my way home, i guess somehow my oil drain cap got unscrewed, and was spewing out and didnt know... (was 5th gear cruzing) next thing you know it was locked up :/ im still under warranty for another 3 days but they said that its not a factery defect so they wont cover, 400-1600 dollars in damage. bummer eh?

Usually what happens is the plug in the top of the cylinder head on the right side of the motor falls out. On the 2001-2002 bikes there was a manual compression release there. 2003 + this is an option and there is a rubberized plug there. It falls out and you lose your oil!

You can get a special plug that works with the factory seal there from Thumpertalk or ****.

I don't think he's talking about the plug on the top of the cylinder. Which yeah, that thing reminds me more of something that can be used to cap a gallon of milk rather than a motorcycle engine. I thought something happened to your valve train. The oil drain plug coming out on any engine is bad news...what a revelotionary contribution I've made.

A little safety wire goes a long way.

Yup, I have seen a few of these rubber plugs fall out. Mine stilll has the old compression release.
