Ontario ,Canada. I need some places to ride

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Hello people,
Lets get some places to ride listed. I'm getting tired of riding the same old place.Lets list some here.
The only place I know is:
Salem Rd .
To get there from Toronto you go north on Highway 400 to innisvile beach sideroad(about 40minutes from Toronto) turn left on Innisville beach sideroad to go west and then go north on the first street you come to.About 10 minutes up the road you will pass a forestry area where you can park or continue north for about a minute to Salem rd which you would turn right onto .It's a dead end . I usually park there and enter the trails from there.
There is a lot of sand and mud there with some very tight and sometimes very muddy trails and some wide whooped out sand sections to ride, but not many jumps or anywhere to get any "big air"
Okay, now lets hear about some other places

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Dont anyone ride in Ontario?

Posted by: Peer Lovell---------------------

Orr Lake, just north of Salem, Ganaraska Forest, the best place to ride on the Planet,
Raglan Pits, Northumberland Forest, Turkey Point, St. Williams Forest; the list goes on and on.
Do you want some specifics?

Posted by: highflyernick---------------------

Ya, I ride in Ontario, in Tillsonburg. A whole pile of people in Tillsonburg ride, there's tons of places to ride too around here. Can't tell ya on here but if you guys came riding with us sometime we could show ya.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Heck ya, I want some specifics. If for some reason you don't want to post them here you can e-mail me if you like, but I'm sure others would like to know as well. Maybe some of us can hook up for a ride or something. We have plenty of time to plan with a few more months of winter ahead of us

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Count me in to a group ride boys. I live west of the GTA...not much around here. I hear Motopark in Chatsworth is pretty good but never been. Same with Eagles Nest and Turkey Point.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

I am going to look up some info and maps on the area, But ive been 4wheeling up in the minden area and it is beautiful. mostly trails but there is all diffrent terrain rock or soft ground. going to see if any of my jeep buddies have some maps of all hte really good trails. If anyone is interesten in getting a ride going in the summer or late spring just post and well see what we can get togeather

Count me in

Posted by: chalie---------------------

I live in scarborough Ont. and trailer my bike to the northumberland forest just north of couburg on hwy 45. It's way way bigger and better than the ganaraska and no pass is needed. I go about once a week, and i although i don't like to, i go alone. If anyone around here wants a partner to shoot the trails with anytime, give me a message. It's much safer in pairs or more. I have room for another bike if needed but don't want to go too far out of my way.(I live just off the 401) I usually stick to speeding through the woods on trails as i havn't quite mastered jumping yet.
Anyway. If you live in ontario, it's one of the best woods sites around. And there's a motocross track there too. although it's not being groomed this year i noticed.

I say lets go to Gopher dunes

TRAILS:
Instinctively carved through 100 acres of bush, lie 26 kms of groomed trails. The flat trails are wide and clearly marked, offering an easy path to follow. Depending on weather conditions, the trails often provide a challenge for mud-seeking enthusiasts! The trails are set up in 3 sections and do not criss-cross. They are easy to ride for both beginners and veterans alike on bikes and ATV's. The wooded trails provide a scenic ride for nature lovers and off-road enthusiasts

TRACK DESCRIPTION:

Gopher Dunes was constructed over a 20-acre parcel of land consisting of a sandy loam soil and is completely free of rocks. The perimeters of the track is edged on 2 sides by a 10 foot sound barrier and encompassed by a wooded area on the other 2 sides. The 1.6 km track has been designed as a fast-paced, physically-demanding, bar-banging course with numerous jumps and the blending in of a few doubles. The track creates tall sand berms that provide an excellent whoop-riding experience and it is highly recommended for anyone with a desire to build up their stamina and endurance. The track has been designed with safety in mind and it offers great overall spectator views! Changes are constantly being made, to keep the regulars on their toes... The Dunes offers an excellent opportunity for riders to learn to pick different lines and it is a soft sand practice track for those needing to tune up for the East Coast Nationals.

and you don't need to worry about insurance

Hey. Make with the directions John. I got this week off so maybe i'll head out that way one morning if it's not too far and give em a whirl. I'm always up for trying something new. Is this crown land or is it club operated? fee?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Ok heres directions, might be alittle far from scarborough. There is a fee of $20 a day. I think there closed for a race Sunday 31 July but they might be open Fri Sat or Monday
cause its not a CMRC event guess you would have to phone.

Your also allowed to camp there for $20 per vehicle a sat and sunday camp over would be great, when it gets alittle cooler out liek august.

Yea, it is a little outa the way. but in a month i spend 2 weeks in cambridge for some training so i might as well tow the rocket there too now that i know a place. Thanks for the help

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Welcome Chalie. Northumberland (?) sounds good, I'd be willing to try it at least once. Prob next weekend works for me.

Posted by: chalie---------------------

It really is a great spot. I usually go alone, so drop a line before u go and maybe i'll meet up with you. I would really like some one to ride with. None of my friends ride, and alone is getting quite scarry as i'm back in the bush really far sometimes

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Do the Police patrol Northumberland looking for people to bust for no insurance? I think they do, so beware if you got no insurance and don't wanna pay $5000

Posted by: chalie---------------------

Here's the low down on the fuzz in northumberland forest.
They come there 3 times a year on 4wheelers and putt around looking for people. They only stay on the east side of hwy45 and it's so big they'd be lucky to see 4/100 people there. I was confronted by them a month ago while returning to my car for a drink with a buddy. They asked for my info and i showed em. (i had everything.) My buddy on the other hand has no ownership for his bike, no insurance and no offroad plate. They were nice guys and said people like us they don't mind letting go. They are mostly there for helmets and such. They told us they rarely lay a ticket unless you're a real ******* to them or try to get away. which wouldn't be hard even on an 80cc with a flat.
Mostly just warnings the cop told us. Just like the one my buddy got. But in the years of going there, that's a first for seeing them..
A while back i got hit with a no ins. fine for $5000 just north of there. However i was in the middle of the highway by my cottage and had er wide open when a dog darted from the ditch into my front tire. I was airlifted to sunnybrook with a lacerated liver and spleen, shattered leg and a few busted ribs. For the icing on the cake the cops laid the no insurance fine on me. One of them met me at sunnybrook and told me he was sorry and that they had to give it to me but it was all over the local papers, and they could have given me many many more.
Out of all the people i know, i am the first to see the opp there at northumberland.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Holy crap glad to hear your ok! I wouldnt mind going there. But someone with insurance is going to the vehicles first to make sure its clear.

Posted by: Buj20---------------------

Is the place in Turkey point a Track; or trails, same with Tillisonburg? I'm from Hagersville so there are both pretty close for me.

For those looking for a good track, Eagles Nest is a great choice, I'm headed there tomorrow.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Turkey point is trails with woops cops patrol so have insurance. Are you talking about gopher dunes in/near tilsonburg? If so its a nice big mx track and 26km of trails . Eagles nest is at the speed way in Ohsweken Ontario?

Posted by: Peer Lovell---------------------

Tukey Point is trail riding. Pretty good variety. It in Turkey Point Provincial Park.
It's legal, but they want plate and insurance. The park wardens patrol the parking areas. They rarely, if ever, go into the trails.
The wardens are pretty nice guys and just check you out to make sure you're not a yahoo.

How about Steel City Riders in Hamilton? Its great only 20 min. drive from Ham.

Posted by: MattyD---------------------

hey gus/gals im in burlington and one of the best spots ever has to be the pits. Its on King Rd. just north of the north service rd across from the gun club best to park at the dog run up the road a wee bit and backtrack a little to get in. the entrance has a fence with the oh so popular no trespassing sign but if u r like me and cant read so well u r in for some great riding.

Posted by: MattyD---------------------

Does anyone ride the Milton clay pits? I've only heard of them and have no idea how to get there.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Hi Matty! I think these are the milton clay pits not positive.

Posted by: GettReal---------------------

Hey Matty... My brother in law and I have been riding the Milton pits for the last 2 years.. its located pretty much on the corner of Tremaine and Steeles. Last year there was heavy equipment in there flatening out areas and all the entrances had huge baracades. You can find ways around them but we are steering clear this year... I think its just going to mean trouble at some point. We are heading to Burlington on Monday morning... maybe see some of you there

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Getreal are you going to the burlington clay pits? If so Maybe i'll meet you guys there. What time you going? Do you guys stay long?

Posted by: GettReal---------------------

John, it will be our first time there....off N. Service rd west of Brant...if thats the pits then yep thats where we are going... We are early riders so we will be there around 8am and ride for a few hours at least... maybe see you there.. we'll be on CR250's

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Watch out there no trespassing signs posted everywhere, it's all fenced in. The only way in is threw a farm feild normally there's a cut trail across the field into the pit last time I was there last year. There are some pretty huge hills there too

Is this the place your going to?

http://home.cogeco.ca/~kellyjo/Clay%20Pits%20Burl.JPG

Posted by: GettReal---------------------

Yep, I think so... I was told that there is a "dogwalking" park and to park in that parking lot and you will see where to enter so we are just winging it... is there ever an issue with our great boys of law enforcement??

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I'm not sure about the law. I was there for 5 hours last year and never saw any police.

Posted by: GettReal---------------------

well....went out all morning...fun place....as we were unloading, cops were coming down the street....20 feet away from us but kept going.... so no issues there... fun local place but might be crazy with lots of bikes out there you cross paths alot there.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Did you try and climb the big hills?

Posted by: GettReal---------------------

hey John, we climbed every big hill we found.. jumped small ones (got scared of jumping the bigger ones haha) got lost in the trails... raced the track...got wet in all the creeks..overall...good time

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Sounds like you guys had a great time! I was thinking of going but went riding with a couple guys on sunday on Ham mountain and it was really muddy 3 foot deep puddles.

Are any of the gates open? How did you guys get in? It is the place I posted a map of?

Are you guys going too go there next weekend? Suppose to be nice all week and 27 on Sat should dry things up a bit.

Posted by: GettReal---------------------

yes, the place you posted is correct.... if you follow king rd up north of north service rd you will pass the model airplane parking lot on teh left ... if you look to the right you will see an entrance to the trails from off the side of the road... but continue up the road for parking...it makes a 90 degree turn left and then on the left hand side before the road makes a 90 degree right turn there is a dog park.... we parked in that parking lot. We usually only go riding every 2 weeks so not next weekend but maybe the weekend after that...IM sure we will meet up with you one of these days..
