What bike DID I get?

I recently got my 5 yr old a JR50 and my 7 yr old a CRF50.
Well, it didn't take Dad long to get the bug to ride along.
What I would have wanted was a 'flat footed' 2 stroke trail bike.
But those kind of bikes have been out of production for many years. In fact there doesn't seem to be any low riding offroad bike in production anymore period. Well, get this, the best 2 stroke I could figure puttin' around on (with rip ability) was the Husqvarna 360. I won't be able to get it out much until spring so I wonder if anyone thinks I've made a grievous error, or is this the right choice compared to the other 2 stroke option: motocross style bikes? I've got plenty of riding experence, so I'm not worried about the Zing. I just wonder if a Thoroughbred(sp) will mind walking the trails? BTW, 4 stroke wasn't an option for me as I don't feel any 4 stroke can match a 2 stroke of equal displacement.

I ride a KX500 on trails with my 8 yr old boy. I've lowered the snot out of it, still can't flat foot on it, but I do enjoy it very much.

I've got a KX500 and it was way to much to ride with my son! So that gave me a reason to get a new bike so we could ride together. LOL I got the KTM525MXC 04 model and I think it's great. I can lug it around and it really hauls ass.

I'm on my second husky 360. Seems like a good choice to me. I'm 43 and been just a trail rider since about 9 yrs old. My first 360 I kept for 3 years ( a 93) and would have still been riding it had it not been for the deal I got on an '02. It's great for putting around with a low 1st gear but you can also just slip into 3rd and put around. Really a hard bike to stall for a larger bore 2 stroke. Has loads of low end but not as much top so I've learned to short shift. Also, throttle control is advised. WIth the 6 speed, your good for more than most trail riders could need but it'll impress your adult riding buddies. Its also the last of the dying breed, unfortunately. I bought the '02 hoping I'd get the best ergonomics/handling coupled with that motor. Another plus for following kiddies is the kickstand since you'll eventually need to get off it to help the youngsters. On the downside, starting takes a big boot unless you get a decompression modification designed for that bike. I can start mine sitting on the seat with only throttle hand holding the bike with the auto decomp. I think more people would ride the big bore 2 strokes if they knew they could start them easier. I have a 125 and it's about the same to start as the 360, and much easier than even a 250 2 st. Get some seat time on it and you'll get that 'big bore grin' going. I like your choice in bikes and happy to answer any questions I can.

Hey oldtimer, I just bought a 99 wr 360, as a trail bike it seems unstoppable. I agree with the above post completely, best 2grand I have ever spent. The starting issue is the only drawback. the tricks I have learned are: Have your left foot on a stump or rock, or the tires down in a rut, push the kicker just past TDC let it come back to the top, crack the throttle (mine takes about 1/4) kick hard and fast more back than down. Before I figured these tricks out, I wore myself out when I had to restart after a breather, now, it's only one or two kicks and I'm grinning, and roosting again. The best way for me to describe the power, is that compared to my previous 2stroke 250s, more power everywhere, especially down low, but nowhere near as violent.
hope this helps,
darin
