I have a 1998 yz 250 that i bought used. The problem is that the forks don't fully extend. I realize that there should be some unsprung sag, but when i pull up on the bars and extend the fork, and then relaese, the fork drops about 1.5 - 2.0 inches. It doesn't slide down nicely like a new bike does (i tested one at the dealer), it just drops abruptly. One seal is leaking and i'm about to get it fixed. I've never had the fork legs apart, could this be lack of oil, sacked out springs, or something else? I really appreciate any advice you all have. Thanks
Aaron

I had a 97 yz 250 with similar symptoms: check the free length of the fork spring

My advice is to service the forks.

sacked springs? worn bushings? need service? forks not centered? Try loosening the pinch bolts at the axle, bounce on the pegs hard and re-tighten the pinch bolts. re-check problem.
