I dont want a poll, just to ask if
a person couldnt afford the right springs for his bike,
Which is more important?free sag or race sag.
Thanks overbore

IMO I'd say race sag.

Race sag.

That is a hard question to answer, because although RACE SAG is the obvious choice, it is still not correct and can cause another problem: imbalance. If a heavy rider preloads a soft spring an abnormal amount, there will be NO free sag, the rear will be topped out. So, even if the spring itself is too soft in rate, the position is correct. But unless this same heavy rider preloads his forks to bring them up, the rear will be high and the front will be low, and there will be imbalance between front and rear to add to his problems. MAYBE riding a too soft bike that is equally soft front and rear would be better?.......it's kind of like asking: "would it better to wear short pants or a t-shirt to a really cold place?"......the answer is neither, you need warm clothes!

Thanks mop and others for the replys.See thats what
I was thinking that if a bike had no free sag it would
beat you to death and be all over the place,so what good
is it to have the right race sag if we dont have the right
spring first. My whole point in asking this was to see if I was
thinking right and with as much being said about race sag
everywhere I would bet there are alot of bikes out there
with race sag close and never being able to set up the bike
correct.I am constantly learning and also want to make
sure that others understand how important it is to have the
spring type right first.
