04 CR250 Linkage - NEED HELP!!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: CR_Dave---------------------

I just made a huge mistake attempting to put new bearing and stuff into my 04CR250 before a race on Saturday. I could not get the bearing races out of the "wishbone" part of the linkage. I banged it up by accident acting like a monkey with a hammer. You can bust on me later for being stupid, but right now I need to get a new linkage. I am on the east coast in PA and everything is closed. Tried the west coast places and I get a confused look on the phone from outlet types of stores.

Any idea where I can pick one up fast, any after-market or even OEM.

Just in case I decide to do this again. How the heck are you supposed to get those races out and install the new ones provided by Pivot Works?

I found a thread on here that tells me how to do it. I found a perfect size c-clamp and tried to push it through. No luck. I looked at the small gouges I made with the prior method and figured I could file them down and still have a solid part until I got a new one. I don;t know why it is so frozen in there. I have a feeling it is due to have 2 types of metal aluminum and steel have fused together.

everyone is closed and nobody is going to be able to get me one for Friday night so I can race on Saturday. I do have a 2000 Cr125 that I will use instead, but I would rather race the 250. hmmmm....I wonder if the 125 linkage fits. ????

I can't get to your email address? I am in the Pittsburgh area. Unless it is close enough to drive, it won't be much help at this point. Thanks anyway.

I was thinking that you were from the philly area and would be driving past where i live to get to Harrisburg. To bad it won't work out. Good luck if you are going to Motoroma.

I just checked on the parts number and they are different. I'm almost sure it would fit though, It might be worth trying.

I got it from Factory Connection. They had it to me Saturday morning.

Thanks for the help.

If the part number is different, the part is different. Honda does not use two part numbers for the same part.

A large bench vise works as a very effective press for bearings like this. Find a socket close to the same OD as the bearing, and a second with an ID larger than the OD of the bearing. Clamp the dogbone in the vise with the small socket on one side and the large one on the other and press the small one through into the large one. A little heat does wonders too on really tough ones.

Yes, but then you've missed out on a chance to rationalize the purchase of a hydraulic press.
