i am searching for a new bike to trail ride with and was wondering if a newer used kx125 would make a good trails bike.

I have a 2002 KX 125 and in stock form it's actually not a bad trail bike. It had pretty good low end pull for a 125. But it was very flat on top. I now run and FMF pipe which has given it more top with a corresponding loss in bottom. It really depends on your riding experience and what type of "trails" you want to ride exactly. If you want a light, zippy bike it's not a bad choice. But for really tight or muddy trails with no jumping there are better bikes. By the way, mine is for sale because I want to get a 250. It's in great shape.

Thanks K_xxx_125, you just gave me a great idea!
I sold my KDX200 this past fall and have been wondering what I should get for a trail bike. I have a mint 1999 KX125 that has been parked since I got a YZ250F. I've been trying to sell the KX but no one wants a two-stroke 125 any more (the KDX sold in one week, the KX has been listed for 5 months)
Why not just convert the KX to a trail bike!
Here's what I'm thinking: flywheel weight, up 2 teath on the rear sprocket, case guard, cut the bars down, bark busters. When it comes due for a top end I will get a big-bore kit and have the ports worked to improve the low-end.
In the end I'll have a nice KDX144.
