couldi use my CRF 450 for scramble races???of is it too big of a bike

Posted by: kdxiowa---------------------

I saw a fella rid'n an XR650 in the last Hare Scramble I was in. He was a big fella and needed it, but it's still a big bike.

Posted by: Bandit9---------------------

You sure can. A lot of people ride 450's of all brands in harescrambles.

we have 450's and bigger running in my local series, some HS course have more open spots than others that are tighter. My Big thumper was a little hard to wrestle in the itght stuff, but a godsend in the mud, open spots, and hill climbs. Plus is so loud you just feel faster....

Can I just say that the CRF450 is the worlds most perfect bike ...for all occasions

Maybe there, it is.

I've run into two former CRF450 owners in this area, both who rode mostly trails with them. Both were former and now current two-stroke owners who's 450s had exploded in grand fashion.

If someone gave me one, I'd sell it and buy a two-stroke.

Don't discourage him from getting a 450! I like seeing them kicking the bike to death on the side of the trail. Easy to pass that way.

While that IS a plus, at least it's a bike.

I much prefer riding past the quads buried in mud. As the three guys started digging out tow straps to extract one ATV I rode on up the trail.

Yeah, I DO have an ATV. It's a utility ATV to haul the beer cooler for when the real riding is finished.

I have raced 450 in mx and hs for 3 years.
In the woods, the 450 is a big bike, the better I get and more advanced class I race, the tougher the 450 is to ride hard. Especially in tight woods.

Right now trying to decide between a crf250 mod out for woods or a cr250 2 smoke with similar woods prep.
No mistake, I am keeping the 05 crf450 for MX.
I am 6'1 200 and it is sweet on a mx track. Tight woods is a handful. It's won't blow up though, mine has been great with exception of 02 valves. The 04 and 05 are really reliable. Don't hesitate if your interested in that bike. Just depends on your riding area, skill, and style .

get a new Husky TE450....2005..absolutley the best offroad trail/race machine ever constructed...

with the Honda CRF450....great bike, but they may take just a little bit more maintennance than the Euro 4 strokes...

anyway I cam eoff an 2004 300EXC and have not found the prep maintnance any more that on the 2 stroke....

but maybe thats because we take care of them...

1. change oil every ride..40 miles plus..
2. oil filter every 4th-5th ride
3. check valves every 2-3rides...10 minutes to do this...
4. air filter clean every ride
5. plug swap every 3rd ride
6. clean oil screens every 3-4 rides
7. grease linkage (via zerks on a husky) every ride
8. lube, adjust, tighten moving components..
9. change fork oil every 8-10 rides
10. top end every off season...
11. clutch every 2 years...

not too much if you just take care of it and it will take car of you...
