Parts for valve checking?

I'm fixin to do my first valve checking on our 04 CRF250 (05 valve train parts). I'm needing some helpful hints on stuff I might need before I start and where to get this stuff. Shim's, etc. Also who makes a good valve spring compressor for motorcycles?

Are you just checking clearances or are you disassembling the head completely?

I had a couple sets of feeler gauges. All in inches. Only the feelers with the tapered tips fit in my '01 250F. I printed out a inch to milllimeter chart.

It sure helps to have a good magnetic extender. I use mine to get the shims out of the holes and put them back in. Makes adjusting the valves alot easier. Good luck, Lee
