i just got a crf250x and i dont know what pipe to get. can anyone tell me what pipe is pretty good for the 250's?? thank you very much

I would say unless you are a motor-cross rider leave the pipe alone. Riding in the woods is great fun, but having to ride with someone who's bike is loud gets old real fast. If you are wanting to change pipes try and stay with one that is still easy on the ears. Besides it helps with our image to the public when they don't have to hear us riding. We could use all the help we can in keeping our trails open. Good luck in finding a good pipe that fit's your riding style. Lee

What are you hoping to get out of your pipe? We have a CRF250X and have tested a few pipes on it so I might be able to help you out. The big questions was already posted though - what kind of riding will you be doing? Do you want to race it? If so - MotoX or Trail?

I'm really happy with the FMF Q exhaust for this bike. Took a while to get the jetting worked out, but the X jetting is touchy anyway. The pipe is very quiet but still has a nice bark to it and the bike rips. Definitely better than stock and for offroad it's nice to be legal and not have to worry about a ticket. Here's my jetting specs with FMF Q, opened up air box, Uni Filter, pink wire, R header:

152 Main Jet
42 Pilot Jet
55 Leak Jet
2-1/4 Turns Air Screw
NCYQ Needle 3rd Clip

We had ALOT of problems with the Q Pipe BUT we also had a PowerBomb header on it which I think was a contributing factor. We tested the Factory 4 Titanium pipe on it and it ran like a bat out of hell man!! That pipe was awesome! We are now testing a Dr.D pipe that has the removable quiet core. the nice thing about the Dr.D is it is a full system so you have some added performance benefits there and the spark arrestor along with the quiet core can be removed at will for motocross racing etc. From what we have found so far the bike doesnt need to be rejetted when adding the quiet core either! At this point in the game we are probably going to stick with the Dr.D for the CRF250X, it just seems to do what we need it to while staying within the sound limits, it would even be legal for CA at 96 which is really nice.

If sound was not an issue we would have most likley stayed with the FMF Factory4 but since we need to conform to race in our local series this is not an option.

BTW - if you are in the market for an FMF Q2 Series pipe or a Factory4 Ti pipe we are selling the ones we just used for testing, they are both brand new and only ridden on for one day, the Q was not even ridden on at all, just assembled and removed. Shoot us an email at shane@revlimiterracing.com if you are interested.

BTW - is the pink wire only on CA models? I cant seem to find it on our 250X?? I have not completely removed the front plate but I am pretty sure I can see all the wires in there. Is it completely pink or is it a black wire with a pink stripe?

It is under the left rear side number plate, close to the subframe and fender.

What's the pink wire deal, is it the same like the WR used to be with the gray, cut it? What does it do to the performance, I've already rejetted, changed the needle and blocked off the emissions stuff? Thanks

Hey ELK

I saw your post last week where you mentioned the IMS emission blocker thingamajiggy...I looked on their site and didn't see it in their product line. Do you have to call to request this item? What is it supposed to do? I think disconnecting the pink wire has something to do with the emissions....don't know exactly....I remember when I got mine last year, the pink wire recommendation was floating around.

Thanks
Matt

the pink wire gives another 1k on the rev limiter, could even change the mapping a little don't remember wat it was like before i pulled it out,but does make a difference

You might want to think about just getting a baja baffle for the stock pipe. The stock pipe will be hard to beat if you want to meet Forest Service Noise requirements. $99 from baja designs.

Now I forgot if it's Baja Designs or IMS, dang it... It's in the February Dirtrider mag as well. Either one though, you can call them and ask for it. It comes with a block off plate, very small, for the head and a couple of plugs for the carb intake and the air box. Took me allof 20 minutes to do it. Pulled of the air pump as well. That combined with the jetting and needle change made a big difference that was noticeable to me. I'll pull the pink wire and see what happens, thanks.
