I bet they don't show the 250's...

17 minutes to go, but 75 minutes left in the soccer game. My money says the 250 broadcast gets dropped altogether except for the repeat friday morning at 0300...

Damn ESPN to the firey depths.

Wait, clock is counting up. My bad. Duh...

Hahaha! I thought the same thing when if first saw the clock.

Either way, it's soccer for God's sake! This is the United States; who the hell cares about soccer in this country? I'll bet the Lumberjack championships get more ratings than soccer here in the USA.

Posted by: mx547---------------------

i'm a soccer coach, both my kids play soccer. i don't watch it on tv but then again i don't watch most of the supercrosses either. i guarantee you the soccer ratings blow away sx.

Posted by: mtk---------------------

I'll take that bet. Yeah, your kids play it. I played it when I was a kid. For the last 30 years we've been hearing that soccer is the "next big thing." We're still waiting. No one in this country gives a good dump about soccer. Never has, never will. There's a reason that any Pro soccer league has struggled to make money or went under: no one likes soccer. Jeez, read your own post: "i'm a soccer coach, both my kids play soccer. i don't watch it on tv...." Go to your local high school and see how many folks turn out for a soccer game. Now see how many turn out for a football game. Notice that NCAA football gets MAJOR TV coverage and NCAA soccer can't get on ESPN unless the team gang rapes someone? Supercross puts over 50,000 butts in seats every weekend, year in and year out.

Get outside the USA and you'd be correct. But within the USA, no one gives a crap about soccer.

Posted by: mx547---------------------

not many give a crap about professional soccer, i don't deny that. i don't like it either. soccer is big on a grass roots level, at younger ages, like motocross. it's not big like football but nothing is. there are several hundred people in my town that play soccer. there are about five that race motocross. we'll check the nielsen's and see whether the soccer game or the sx drew more viewers. i think you'll be sadly mistaken on this one.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

I'm betting you'll lose that bet mtk.

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

I just wish that we could pay too watch every sx & National live, something like they do w/football where you pay a premium too watch any game you want.. I'd be a SERIOUS couch Potato

Well ESPN2 screwed us here. We checked the TVguide listing (the one on TV) said from 2-4...well we got the 125's, but NO 250's..only Soccer!!! I was at my grandmas and saw the 250's at 3, but no 125s...
She has a different cable provider than we do...

I had a feeling I should have taped it while I was there...

True, but that is a one stadium, on one night, sixteen times a year.

Soccer more than makes up for the per event fan base by having hundreds of events every week. (World Cup, Pro, Semi-Pro, Collegiate. Each team can also play more than once a week.)

Also, consider that this was the U.S. vs. someone (Mexico??) so there is even a broader nationalistic audience.

I'm sure soccer fans have the same gripes about TV coverage for their sport as we do for ours.

Don't get me wrong. I don't like soccer and ESPN2 drives me nuts, but I bet soccer has higher ratings.

Fortunately, the race was only 4 minutes late and Lou was just panicking.

I say all super cross should be on speed channel the daytona race was great on speed channel. I love sameday coverage

down with espn2

fight the system

125cc from noon to 1pm, then soccer for 2 hours and 250cc from 3pm to 4pm. The 125cc race was just as exciting as the 250cc race.

This Soccer vs. SX is a refreshing break from the weekly 4 stroke vs. 2 stroke discussion......but then...it's only Monday

And none of those events get crap in the way of attendance or TV coverage. There's a reason for that: no one is interested. If they were, the stadium would be packed and there would be money to be made broadcasting it on TV. The lack of interest means there is no money to be made showing it on TV.

Having 500 events viewed by 100 people does NOT mean you have 50,000 viewers. It means you've got the same 100 people watching a bunch of soccer.

Every supercross sells out. There is more demand than there is a supply of tickets. Very few soccer events in the USA can sell every seat in the building.

I'm interested to see the Neilsen numbers for the two because I still don't buy that there are more TVs in the USA tuned in to soccer than supercross on any given airing of the two.

I sure hope the soccer match was live coverage. Otherwise they should have edited out 4 minutes (or 2 laps between the goals) kinda like when they break for two minutes of the same three (Honda, Suzuki, and MX vs. ATV Unleashed) commercials repeated six times in one hour while a championship battle is taking place (I gotta ride, I gotta ride, I gotta ride cause I ride Suzuki, I am a champion, dude.)

Wow, alot of scoring action in that game...2-1 Mexico...woo-hoo

Since I do the computer video capture thing I missed Chad's winners podium comments.

I would definately consider PPV just to garantee start and end times.

Sorry for the angry ramble! One too many of these:
