I am rebuilding a xt 600 I installed a 1mm over piston 9.5 to 1 comp.and a web camshaft for improved mid - top end power.Lift .385 IN & .375 EX set at 107.5 lobe centers IN. & 112.5 LC. EX The dual carb on this bike is the problem I made some shims for the needle. I need main jets .

What year xt? I told one guy in here that on my 83 (which had a dual carb) I had to make my own main jets. I had to take the regular old mikuni main jets (same thread) chuck them in a drill. Took a small file and turned them down. Then used a die to extend the threads further down the jet and cut them to length. So when i got done the hex or nut part that you put a socket on was only about a third the length it began at and the overall length about half what it began at (just sized the jets I was making next to the original out of the carb). and the part filed away was now threads. I had to compare the size of hole in the jet, because the number didn't seem to mean anything, and built several so I could dial it in. On mine the secondary side had a hose from the float bowl to a nipple that doubled as the jet. (mine ran too rich) so I just took a piece of regular clear fuel line and pushed the size of jet i wanted to reduce it to inside the hose and installed it. I built several sizes of those also. Nobody I found could get me jets to fit that style carb. When I was done it ran really well. I noticed some of the newer bikes didn't have the hose between the two sides so on those you might have to build jets for the other side also.

The bike is an 88 xt600 83-89 carb is the same as your 83,I am building this engine for a friend (customer). The bike was running when i tore it down. The carb was rich at 3/4 to full throttle. I am hoping the new cam & piston will suck up that extra fuel. I always Expect the worst & hope for the best. You certainly have the right matt-itude. Thanks! I owe you one

If it gets really ugly I might still have a couple of the ones I made lying around. I could possibly mail you one to look at if my description is too hard to follow. I hope it is all clear in your head as to what Im talking about. If you have more questions please ask. I don't think many people would take the time to dial these carbs in because it takes a little effort (build your own parts out of the closest thing you can find) and understanding. I've said it before that bike really ran good when I got it right.

Another thought we took the spark arrestor out of the back and used along 5/8 drill bit to knock 5 holes in the baffle inside the pipe giving the exhaust a straighter shot out. It made it louder though. I couldn't find a pipe for it or I didn't want to spend the money on it at the time, I don't remember which.

I Had to read through your directions, A few times to figure it out. I apreciate your help I have been stressing over this. When my buddy first asked me about rebuilding his engine.I remember bragging about being able to rejet it.You can imagine how ignorant I felt, When I found out about the jets.I owe you one. If your ever in need of parts. Let me know I might be able to save you some money Do you remember the diam. & thread pitch of the die you used.

It has been too long but it seems that they were the same thread as the standard mikuni jets. I would screw one into the carb to double check me. I just remember toting the jet around looking for that small of a die. You may be able to find the size also by trying the bolt bin out at a hardware store to find a corresponding nut (to give you the diameter and pitch). Wish I could help more. good luck on this thing. I will look for one and take it to work with me tomorrow see if I can find out.
