I was an old member (jpnaces) a few years back on this forum and I stopped riding after I broke three vertebrae in my back (compression fractures). I sold both of my bikes (YZ400F and YZ125) and laid low for two long years. Well, we have an MX track here on our Navy base and we got selected by Racer X as the winner of the MX track makeover and Racer X came to the base and re-groomed our entire track (watch for it in a future issue, Pingree came and rode it for the article). Seeing the long overdue progress on the track, I got the itch to ride again and I ordered a 2005 CRF250R. I just couldn't go any longer without a bike and the comradere of all great fellas I used to ride with. I already ordered a set of adjustable rubber mount triple clamps and my old CR-Hi Protapers (I've always run CR-hi Protapers on all my bikes, even the Yamahas). I need a good spark arrestor for sure for Clear Creek, Hollister, Gorman, and Miami Trails (Oakhurst).. I pick up my bike on Thursday morning, any recomendations for additional uprades I should look into off the bat?

Buy some gas. That's about all that bike needs! Check out Pro Moto Billet for a spark arrestor end cap (roughly $99, I think), or check out Dubach Racing Development for a slip-on or full exhaust system with removable S/A screen and no db increase.

You might also look into a good skid plate if you are going to do some trail riding. Good luck with your new ride, it's a nice bike.

It will be good to be back and you picked a fine bike.
Once you break that puppy in take the time to review the manual and check your valve clearance. Record the base line you are starting with, adjust if needed. Setting /checking them first, early on will make you smile later.

break it in like you stole it! A good skid plate and radiator braces are a good idea. Might want to run Engine Ice as cooler temps seem to help valve life (along with constantly clean air filters)
