I was hoping so
Asterisk is a open source PBX (private branch exchange). Its a Key system that runs on an inexspensive PC. You can run mulitiple phones and then only have a few lines to the PSTN (SBC,Qwest, or who ever is your provider). It allows you to transfer calls between phones and have voicemail, etc... It runs on a standard PC and uses you data network or IP as its transport. Its also know as VoIP. You can find some more info a http://www.voip-info.com. CME is Call Manager Express by Cisco. Google that you can find more info that you care to know about

I don't have any answers to your particular questions, but this is the inherent problem with open source in the business environment, support can prove to be very challenging and costly in lost productivity
If you aren't to far down the road I'd take a look at TeleVantage from Artisoft, a very viable product although somewhat pricy to implement, but very inexpensive to support and you can use just about any third party phones, switches, severs and other add-ons
and support is five star
