DW2K5 ... Who's going?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Let's get a feel for who all will be attending this year!
Be honest!

Posted by: CaptainObvious---------------------

Dude, I'm in. Hopefully I have my new numbers by then

Posted by: VintageDirt---------------------

I'll be there no matter what. This year I might even bring a guest.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Wonder if the SoCal / Cali crews will make it this year? I gotta see Bundy knock down some more trees.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

I hear rumor that Fred T and the Michigan Mafia may come-out in force again?

Posted by: evenslower---------------------

Absolutely. Now that I'm in DW's backyard (it was here before me........) I'll have the rest of my tribe come check it out to see what I've been describing the past 3 years.

Posted by: Chili---------------------

We'll be there, right now it's just a matter of how many days I can manage to cover at work.

Posted by: Kav---------------------

I'm working on it

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Unfortunately, it's tough to say...I'm thinking about showing up bikeless, I'm there more for the bench racing than the actual riding anyway! Then I could help out too with things that help is needed for ...Not to mention there's always spare bikes!

Rooster and I have discussed it, and we're thinking if we can swing it we'll fly in for the week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Posted by: YZ165---------------------

Absolutely! I missed it last year and haven't heard the end of it yet. Can't wait!

Posted by: Senior KX Rider---------------------

Eric and I are in for the whole week

Posted by: mafols---------------------

Hey Okie,

We've never been, but so far it's all systems go for this year.

Just a couple of questions...
Do you have to be registered members to attend?
What about guests?
How long before we see a preliminary schedule of events?

Thanks

Matt

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Non-registered members can attend with DRN members
Guest? As in someone that doesn't ride?
Schedule in about a month. It will be similar to last year, look in the DW04 archives.

Posted by: mafols---------------------

Guests...as in non-reg.(you answered that...)

Thanks

Posted by: FiremanCRF450R---------------------

I'm going and cant wait.

Posted by: wardy---------------------

We and the crew will be there, likely a few more lurkers in here will be along also. likely same as last year with a twist........get there wednesday, leave early afternoon saturday, only after I beat will in the first moto of the pro class.

:P

Sam, we'll talk at Paragon in afew weeks.

Posted by: mxbundy---------------------

I will try and make it this year, I know that Brownie probly needs some dead wood removed!

Bundy

Posted by: MrLuckey---------------------

I am definitely going to try but with starting a new job in August I will have to wait and see. I am hoping that at the very least I can fly in and be there 3-4 days.

Posted by: nikki---------------------

Planning on it, but we decide everything last minute. Probably arriving Wednesday or Thursday as vacation days might be a little short come October.

Posted by: ChopperDave---------------------

I am planning/hoping to bring my family. Just depends when and where, how much time I can take my daughter out of scholl for. Do you guys bring your kids? Children ok? She is 13, and rides. My wife really wants to go, so thats 90% of the deal right! GET R DONE!

Posted by: blackhawk468---------------------

I should be in for at least the last few days.

Posted by: Farmer John---------------------

Edd, call me.
I just happen to know of a crew cab pick up doing the Cali to OK trip

no Creed CD's, though.
got one burned into my memory

Posted by: YamaB---------------------

I'm going to try and make it this year... Hopefully some of the other KC peeps will be going...

Kids are very much welcome. My son Eric (10) has been to all but one of the Dirtweeks. There are always quite a few younguns there.

Posted by: Patman---------------------

My son will be 13 and has missed the past 2 DW's because of school but is determined to make it this year. He's been around a lot of the DRN crew for years but reguardless, know if he is riding or just messing around out of my or the wife's sight there is at least a half dozen other pairs of eyes making sure he and any other kid is OK. Heck for the most part we're all a bunch of kids anyway.

Posted by: Jeff Gilbert---------------------

What is this Dirtweek you speak of?

I had to promise the ex last year that after taking the kid out of school for a week the past three years that I wouldn't do it this year, I'm thinking she can only miss 4 days of school
Not sure which day I'll arrive but I do plan on being there. If I can't make it up early this year perhaps Patman can stop by my house on the way up and pick up the sound system so it'll be there as soon as possible. That is if you need it again this year.

Posted by: Patman---------------------

Geez Jeff it's sooo far out of my way

Posted by: thumbs---------------------

Dr. Santero, Tony'da Rat and Thumbs should be in this year.

Posted by: WaltCMoto---------------------

Im in with my 13yr old daughter, Its her turn now. Unfortunatly, Bob and Eric cant make it this year.

Posted by: husky2kawi---------------------

How many "learning/beginner" women go?
This sounds like a really fun week!

Posted by: BSWIFT---------------------

Dates are blocked out on the calender at work. I'll quit if they try to keep me from going.

Posted by: ChopperDave---------------------

If all goes well my wife will be there and she is still a beginner.

I imagine we are all still learning. If your wife is like mine she doesn't like falling over in front of a bunch of poeple.

Posted by: jaction125---------------------

I'm really trying to make it this year, even though I've never met any of ya's. I NEED to get off my dead butt and get my bike straight first. I will be bringing my non-riding GF, hopefully there will be something for her to do while we're there.

Posted by: Crispy---------------------

Jaction -

Give us 15 min, you will know more people than you will know what to do with! Also, there will be plenty of non riding "friends" everywhere. Me included. You can find me under the Big Top when you "Check in" at Dirtweek...Hope to see you both there!

Posted by: scar tissue---------------------

If Da Rat and Bundster are in, I'll try to tag along. That way the medics will have someting to do

Posted by: tnrider---------------------

If no parts fall off of me between now and DW05, i plan to be there with at least my son (I need someone to wash the bikes). I already have the "ok" from the "boss" to pull him out of school for the week - after all, i understand that DW is very educational with people from around the country - its a cultural experience!!!

Will be coming across from East TN - perhaps can meet up with ChopperDave and we can have a convoy across I40...

How difficult is it to tent camp at DW? Unless i run into some extra $$ or someone gives me a camper - we will be in a tent or the bike trailer for the week. How much food / cooking type stuff do i need to bring or is it available. Perhaps i should be asking where the nearest hotel is located (with hot tub and massage therapist...)

Posted by: Senior KX Rider---------------------

There are always a lot of tent campers at DirtWeek and if you choose a hotel there arequite a few close by

Posted by: Patman---------------------

If you are considering a hotel it would be good to book it SOON. They tend to fill up quickly when there are home games in Stillwater.

Posted by: ChopperDave---------------------

We are planning on leaving early Monday the 10th of Oct. Gonna go all the way there that day. Let me know when you are going and we will try to work it out. Maybe you guys could leave on Sunday and spend the night at our place, that way it wouldn't be such a long drive for you. We could throw a shrimp on the barbi! We will be tenting it also. Although I am looking into camper rental prices. The thought of a whole week of riding and sleeping in a tent each night.... Or standing in line for an hour to take a shower....
(I don't know what the shower situation is like)

"What's this life for?"

I'm pretty sure I'm in. Missed it last year and I got to get back. I may or may not have a visitor with me. "Hey, is that you?"

Probably leave the 'Ham sometime on Tuesday and stay through Sunday.

Posted by: Timr---------------------

Tent Camping: Guys, I have done all but one DW in a tent. Back in Casey, there was segregation. Tents in one area, and RVs in another. It was kinda cool back in the tent community or slums as they were reffered to. Anyway, things are fine in a tent. You'll be so tired you'd just sleep on the ground if you had too.

Usually, groups of guys go in and rent a hotel room to run into town for showers. Believe this though: If you don't camp you won't get the full experience.

Posted by: ChopperDave---------------------

I checked the football schedule for the OSU-Stillwater Cowboys-
They have a home game on the 8th of Oct.,
and they will be away/at Texas A&M on the 15th.

This might help some folks with hotel reservations.

Posted by: BEEF706---------------------

The only way I'm gonna miss it is if there is a major problem with moving my momo out this summer, otherwise I'm there all week!! ( been thinking about it since last year )

Posted by: XR3J---------------------

Unless something drastic happens, I'll be there for the whole week again, and my wife and girls will join me Wednesday or Thursday.
Jerry

Same with the Michigan crew. We may make it by late Wednesday if we can come I have to heal up enuff to ride first from neck surgery, then I godda practice on my sic new KLX 110 because I wanna lay some serious lap times down on it (is there a super senior class for the mini bikes -age 50+???)and be there for the team HS. (Which I hope is Thursday) My speed and stamina is going to suck this year after being off the bike for 6 months in recovery but oh well, it''s still all for fun. I wanna mooch some of Vintages salsa too.

Posted by: GETMETOCA---------------------

I missed last year (Friggin AUDITS KILL MY SOCIAL LIFE!!!!) so I'ma gonna try this year!

Posted by: TwinSpar---------------------

I should be there. I took two non-riders last year that had a blast just for the one day. This year they are both riders and really wanting to go. The only thing that would stop me is lack of income.

Posted by: Kav---------------------

I'll be there with my Twin in tow, I'm trying to get some other people to tag along, but we well see

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

There's *TWO* of you?!?

You don't need Hotel reservations if you stay @ Cooperland!

Posted by: Moteaux---------------------

Dirtweek? What's Dirtweek... I just stumbled in here and found this place by accident.

I am going to try to make it again, but I have to see how the V-days are looking. I have already committed to a road-bike vacation in early September. I just have to see how everything shakes out. I think I still have a dirtbike somewhere in the garage.

Posted by: GETMETOCA---------------------

Randy!!

Posted by: AssistSuper---------------------

I'll definately be there. How could I miss it when I go to school in Stillwater?

Posted by: tnrider---------------------

for those of us that occasionally (ok, often) eat too much - what are the food options at DW? I would really rather not have to haul cooking equipment or deal with keeping food cold. snacks i can deal with but i really just want someone else to cook my main meal each day. (can you say married and spoiled...)

how are those tent camping keeping their food cold? ice only goes so far in a day... the most important thing is that i need to keep my milk cold - have to keep all the bone breaks on the mend!

It's cool, no one will hold that against you

Boomer!

Posted by: oldguy---------------------

TNRider Jack and Diane have been bringing ice to sell all day plus just ask and I'll bet any rv there will offer up fridge space.

Oh you can't talk. You live in Texas.

I was born and raised a Sooner fan, but OU doesn't have an agriculture program. I'm still not warmed up to wearing orange or cheering on the Cowboys.

Posted by: a454elk---------------------

I'm definately working on it. Won't know just yet though.

Posted by: ksp---------------------

Would like to go-had a good time last year, may not be able to make it due to business related obligations that week. We'll see when it gets closer.

Posted by: thumbs---------------------

Looks like I'm out.

If you need volunteers, I'm there but I'll bet you won't need em.

By the way, I know how to make chili. And, It cooks itself while I ride. Perhaps thats as good as it gets!

It always helps when Elkiepoo pulls out his badge when you get caught because of the squeaky cooler hinges in the wee hours.
Oh we are sorry just doing the nightly cooler inspection so the raccoons don't get into them

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

well the doc report is pending very positive to be fully recovered and riding by DW. I have time off from 10-11 to 10-16 and I know of at least one guy that wants to come with me.
so between 2 and 5 may make it from Michigan this year.......please stand by.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Posted by: Joe Diver---------------------

Okay...I've got my vacation request in and it shouldn't be an issue getting the time off. I'm also working on my group of friends to get them to come along. I'm 99% sure I'lll make it...and if I have to come alone, looks like I have a space in a GP medium to lay out my cot!

Posted by: motometal---------------------

KSP-you had better show up or we'll be pissed!

whoever asked about keeping food cold if you are tenting--we use coolers, between the three of us there's at least one for food and one for beverages, sometimes a third one. No big deal, ice is cheap. We bring a grill, and use that for most of the meals. If you get creative, there are lots of different things that can be made fairly easily.

Otherwise, Steve, Jake, and myself plan on attending but of course it isn't written in stone yet.

Motohead--I can relate to your situation. I've been doing more street bike stuff lately myself, although today I did my first 2 hr scrambles in about five years (and i'm so tired I can barely type).

Posted by: Patman---------------------

Those that use coolers might consider using dry ice in one cooler to use as a deep freezer. Then just transfer stuff a day in advance to the ice cooler to thaw out. I've had five pounds of dry ice last 3 days in an old steel belted Coleman cooler I have and everything in it stayed frozen rock solid. The trick is to keep the dry ice cooler closed as much as possible and wrapp the dry ice in several layers of newspaper. Getting it in a single chunk is also very helpful.

Posted by: Farmer John---------------------

If you plan on using coolers for your beer, you might want to make sure the hinges are well oiled so you get a good nights sleep.

Posted by: Tony Eeds---------------------

Posted by: motometal---------------------

No problem there, we have trained, deadly attack spiders guarding the area.

Posted by: slo' mo---------------------

Missed last year and spent the next 6 months in isolation moping about it. Not again. Still be riding the same POS but it's always been faster than I care to go.

Posted by: Grady---------------------

At 15 years old, my Daughter has contracted ABD (Addiction to Dirt Bikes), so we will have 3 in the camper this year. And she makes killer samiches.

Posted by: Patman---------------------

The return of Slo'mo! SWEETNESS!!!

Posted by: David Bird---------------------

After seeing the clash of the Titans, who could stay away? Was it Bling that had the monkey on his back??? I want to hit that event just for the marshmallows every lap. I'm working on gaining a little weight so I qualify. I've convinced a few of my friends to go this year as well. I have three guys that work with me at Tinker that are coming out, one of them is bringing his family. I also have a friend coming from NJ, he's breaking down his bike & putting it into his BMW just to get out here. I'm sure he's not the first. I also have a friend coming out from Northern Cali. Everyone is committed. I'm even going to buy the wife a pit bike so she'll have something to do out there! Has anyone heard from the helmet-cam guy? Dirt-week rocks!

I'm in for sure; wouldn't miss the chance to hang with such a great group of people and ride, ride, ride. We'll have to see what those dates mean with my kids' schedules but I'd sure like to bring at least one of them, too.

I am being optimistic and hoping to be there. I go under the knife to repair a blown disc July 11th and am hoping for a speedy recovery so I can . Jared wants to go even if I can't, but he'll only be 9 and the last time I checked.... They don't issue a drivers permit for folks that age.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

Put a few phone books in the front seat of the RV for him...he'll be FINE!

Posted by: CaptainObvious---------------------

Steve, I'd be happy to bring Jared with me...but I'd be happier to see you and Pat there! Let me know if i can help out, really.

Good luck on the operation. Let us know how it works out.

David, I'm about an hour North of Trenton. If I have room, I'd be happy to transport the bike for your friend.

Thank you VERY much! I'll let him know, but we'll wait for a final word from you. I'm going to guilt him until he gets off his butt & signs up on the site. I'm always humbled by the DRN spirit, thanks again!

Posted by: motometal---------------------

one comment regarding this poll, and sorry if this is redundancy (I didn't read every post),

...it only allows us to vote once, but many of us have other people going along (not all attendees are active on DRN or even have a computer)

Posted by: gnarlykaw---------------------

well, we were talkin about goin again this year, but it appears the school district is making the decision for us this time. the kids in the middle school are only allowed 10 days out of school during the calender year, this means sick days, AND vacations. Well, I'm afraid Disney outranks any DW event in our house............I still have one young kid that likes the Disney stuff yet, so our time out will be south instead of west this time. We will truly miss you guys!

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

No!

Posted by: oldguy---------------------

Gnarly just tell him it is a new Mickey the Rat world.
We have the demon drop- Big stepup just ride it backwards
there is the splash mountain- come off the mini track and hit the pond
space Mountain- do the big stepup rthe right direction
future land just let him talk to Rich for a while
fort wilderness- let him talk to Gomer for awhile
the jungle cruise- A couple laps around the woods loop with sparx
I am sure there are a few other rides there I haven't seen yet

Cool

Posted by: Hogwylde---------------------

I can't make it this year. I trashed the motor in my bike during a race last June, so I'm bikeless for a while. And, the traditional "Dirweek is the last week of September" that I've reserved for my vacation isn't the date for Dirtweek this year, so I don't have the right week off for it anyway. SIGH......oh well.

Posted by: a454elk---------------------

Dante, I'm going so you can make it too. What's 1200 miles for a week like this, dirt beyond belief and trees with leaves. 1200 miles is like 10 riding trips roundtrip, pffft.

Posted by: rm_racer---------------------

My first time at dirtweek wont be this year, but if there still going in 2007 and I still ride, Ill be there. Thats just casue I cant drive yet.

Posted by: KelvinKDX---------------------

Damn ... i wanna go ... i wanna go ... i wanna go ...

I'll have to just play it by ear and see how it works out. I will be in school as i was last year ... and seeing that i paid for 2005 but could not make it ... well we'll see. 2007 looks like a go though.

Posted by: Brian---------------------

Dad will be there all week. I'll be there Thu-Sun for sure, maybe, possibly, hopefully all week.

Think fly ... I have a 400

Posted by: shiftless---------------------

Eddie, pleeaaaaaaaaaasssssssse try to come. It just wouldnt be right without you there. You could fly out Thurs. afternoon and back on Sunday and miss only a day and a half of work. You know you could stay with any number of people and there would be a bike to ride if you couldnt get someone to bring yours. If that new company says no to a mere day and a half, then they are just mean!! Hope you can make it.

Edwierdo mi amigo, this is not an optional deal. Our friend Jack will be there as well.

So that being resolved what day do you arrive buddy?
